December 22, 200520 yr I agree, this is the best freeware product that I have seen. Thanks to the folks for providing this.I too, would like to learn if there is any flight planner that can be used with this airplanes FMC. I found that the plans are saved in a .FLTPLAN format. I was able to manualy enter a flight plan into the FMC, however, this is a lot of work using the mouse and clicking each entry into the plan.Jim
December 22, 200520 yr The download figures for this aircraft are quite significantly inaccurate -- a fallacy of the Library system is that it counts *attempts* to connect to the download server rather than successes, so the >10,000 downloads the file claims are a little inaccurate -- a more realistic figure would be around 2,000, but this is still extremely impressive! The extreme inaccuracy is due to the popularity and size of this file causing the Library server to be very busy -- and hence causing some connections to fail.Matt
December 22, 200520 yr This is an interesting effort. It has an amazing amount of stuff in it. I only wish I could get the sounds to work with it but there seems to be no sound.cfg for the 744 sounds that he bundled. The 2-D performance is dreadful on my PC (and I have a DELL XPS 3.80Ghz!) although it is excellent in 3-D (i.e., VC). The flight model is not great; it handles a bit ike a Cessna after tanking up on too much Beaujolais.A magnificent contribution nonetheless, a great entree for these developers.JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
December 23, 200520 yr I would like to thank the iFly Developement Team:Jiangwei ShenFounder, gauge developer & 3D modelingBo Yuan2D painting & optimiztionMiao LuoDocumentation & manual writingQinzhong YaoTechnical mentorThese guys have done a fantastic job. This has to be an award winner. Thanks guys!Alas! I will not be able to fly it until I get a new computer someday. My little PIII800, 256MDDR Ram, Win98SE, 5600XT/256 rig won't handle it. It is a very nice slideshow. I only wish I could use it. I have been wanting a really good 747 since I became a simer!Oh well...Merry Christmas everyone!Earl
December 23, 200520 yr Just to say I received an email from Jiangwei Shen in 2 hours with some help for my sound issue. Unbelievable service and attention! This team has produced something remarkable, eh?JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
December 23, 200520 yr Good idea, I'll write them a mail personally!Andreas Andreas, LOWW - Nihil sumus et fuimus mortales. Respice, lector: In nihil ab nihilo quam cito recidimus.
December 23, 200520 yr I'm also expressing my gratitude to developers. This question has been posted previously but just to remind you: Did anybody found those shortcuts to different panels (other than going through the FS menu)?Besides I'm also experiencing 6 fps in 2D view for some time after takeoff. Then it jumps to 24 fps (normal for my system) all by itself. Any news, observations, or solutions about that?
December 23, 200520 yr Maybe I've missed it, but has there been an announcement from Avsim regarding this release?Would also be nice to have a detailed review of this major freeware contribution to the flightsim community.Credit where credit is due. John
December 23, 200520 yr Hi JSCan you please tell me what the sound-issue answer from the developers was?Thanx in advanceRegardsHenrik KorningBGGH
December 23, 200520 yr regarding the slow performanve problem in 2D:The Mainpanel uses a very small bitmap as background (1x1 Pixel in size), as a unhappy owner of the FT 737 PIC i just used their background bitmap for testing and put this instead of the original one in the panel.cfg in section window01.Before that change i got 6 fps in 2d and around 20 fps in VC, after that change i get 15-18 fps in 2d no change in VC.I found this as i tried to open the panel in fspanelstudio and all panel windows had a very small size on my screen, i couldn
December 23, 200520 yr Maybe they are D U C K ing for cover? Let's get some duct tape, that will fix'em ;P
Randy J. Smith
AMD 64 4000+|ASUS K8V DELUXE|SAPPHIRE ATI X800XT PE|MUNCHKIN 3200|80 gig SATA|DELL 1905FP 19" LCD|TRACKir PRO|PFC JEPPESEN MOONEY YOKE|CH PRO PEDALS| Randy J Smith

December 23, 200520 yr Henrik:It was no big deal: I didn't observe that the SOUNDS were for the gauges and thought something was wrong when in fact it wasn't (my usual rush to look and figure something out, sometimes the wrong way!). The default sound was aliased to the MSFS 737, so I switched that to a different 744 soundset I have.JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
December 24, 200520 yr Ron:I am not sure I understand what you are doing with swapping out bitmaps. Can you elaborate or simplify at all, please? What should we look to replace and how? Do we replace in the 2_D only or in VC as well? What is an acceptable bitmap if we don't have the FT 737 PIC?Appreciate any further explano or clarification. December 24, 200520 yr I've found lots of bugs in the airplane systems without even trying, but I guess I can't complain for freeware. Let's just say I won't be removing PMDG's 744 from my hard drive in a hurry ;)Rgds.Q.
