What does FSW do that other sims don't?

Featured Replies

People talk about features but probably don't understand that updating someone else's software is hard and that they need to start small to ensure any functionality.

People are already figuring out how to make scenery and planes work in FSX.

Just one example: KJYO in FSX has buildings... in FSW it is barren.

Maybe there is a reason for that. I suspect the reason is a four letter word, starting with 'O' and ending with 'X'.
And in fact, Leesburg is part of the Global Freeware Airports pack.
Maybe.

My home airport in Germany (EDBJ) has been improved over FSX. There is an ORBX version available, which of course is lightyears better, but naked FSW is much improved over naked FSX.

Kind regards, Michael

So we eliminate default scenery intetionally so people have to purchase addon scenery?

I am only speculating. One possibility is that some airport areas have been left blank intentionally to be eventually filled by something else.
Since FTX Global is already part of the default scenery, I find plausible that the Global Airport pack will be implemented at some point. Or maybe not.

Anyway, no purchase needed, global airport pack is free.

As a blanket statement... that's probably not actually true.

I'm finding locations that are worse than FSX... seems to be a random situation with no actual rhyme nor reason that we can glean.

Global Airport Pack only works if you have FTX Central v3 and FTX Global installed.  Says so on their web site.

Most are definitely better, though. I have myself shown shots over Rio de Janeiro here in another thread. Compare this to FSX vanilla and judge yourself.
If you do cherry-picking, you can definitely find areas that are worse and conclude that terrain in FSW in worse than in FSX, but most of us have evidence to the contrary.

Much better in some cases, as I have had the chance to observe in your vieos barrel_owl. They are actually worth observing, and can give  users in the fence a good reason to jump into this platform - after all it's almost for free at today's typical price ranges...

Depends on your definition of complex I suppose but I don't recall any stock FSX aircraft having fuses that when pulled kill the relevant instruments.

Just seen the review of P3D V4 the rain effect not on par with FSW .

Well done FSW, you have better rain than P3d, there's no stopping you now :-)

I know, I'm sorry, but it's been a long day...

This may be a bug. I reported something similar on the bug forum on Steam. I flew from my home airport(KGSP) to 35A which had no buildings when I landed. Just a beacon and runway. Thought I was in X Plane.  Started up a new flight taking off from 35A, and lo and behold, the buildings were there and they looked properly placed as at the real thing. Same thing happened later at a different airport.

With reference to the topic title one thing that FSW doesn't do is autogen to the horizon from any altitude. P3Dv4 plus it's a fully functioning sim. So your choice is raindrops on your windscreen or autogen to infinity! Plus devs won't have the potential problems with regard to DTG taking cuts from profits. PMDG are days away from re releasing some a/c. The only drawback for the moment is no FSUIPC.
