Starting my add ons by double clicking a .bat file with these three lines puts these add ons on LP0 (rightmost) and my P3Dv4 AM of 254 avoids that LP.  These add ons don't use much CPU time so this works for me.  YMMV.

This is tricky... you actually do not want to share a physical core between the main P3D thread and your addon apps.. if you can avoid it.  So keep Core 0 free if Core 1 runs the main thread.

I might direct the addons to Core 2 or 3 in this case.

OR, choose the example above:

AffinityMask = 244      11 11 10 00

Run addons on Cores 0 & 1

Yeah, I have heard that from LM, Steve W & others.  So I tested my system with AM 244 and .bat affinity 3 and then again with 254 and .bat affinity 1 and the latter gave cooler temps and better performance.  Maybe because I have an "older" GTX 970 GPU and I need the extra CPU LPs to compensate.  I don't know but I do know it works well for me.  Again ASP4, PE and FSXFlight are pretty low key apps so the CPU utilization is like 5% most of the time.  Almost like not sharing the Core 0 with the main P3D thread.

Maybe I am misreading this, but 244 should not be coupled with bat affinity 3, but rather 0 & 1

.bat affinity "3" would be 00 00 00 11 and 244 is 11 11 01 00.

Do you really see a measurable difference using this affinities for the additional softwares? I mean, I do not see any difference at all in my fps, no matter if I run only P3D alone, with AS4 in the background or with AS4 and Pro/ATC-X. Those two addons need that little CPU power... My FPS stay the same, no matter if I turn on or off AS4 or Pro-ATC/X in the background. This with AF=85 for my [email protected].

I watch FPS but I really use logs of CPU / GPU temps & utilization % along with overall smoothness on test flights out of an intense airport scenery over a similar track.  I don't believe I've tried AM 85 with no .bat affinity for the add ons.  I'll try to get a log sometime today (US east coast) and post.  I think a lot of this depends on so many variables...  I run unlimited frames, 60Hz monitor refresh, vsynch and triple buffering on, etc...anti aliasing is also a variable.  So as I said before YMMV.

Is is not an fps thing, but a smoothness thing in my experience.

Any thing you can do to give P3D as much room as possible contributes to smooth stutterfree flight.

The only that is not fixable, as best I know, is a sudden halt, when flying into a new detailed scenery region in Orbx land, that requires a lot of new textures to be loaded.  It would be nice if LM could figure out a way to handle this in the background..

+1  My experience is much smoother and CPU runs cooler (2-5C with less temp variations) when I separate all other processes from the sim.  For example, my GTN grinds to a halt if it runs on any LP the sim runs on.

Hey folks and friends,

I am in a winter temperature envelope making my sim so smooth (P3Dv4.1)  that i almost cant believe my own specs.  . For starters i am only with SLI 970`s in 4K but thats okay as long as i dont push Dynamic lights to the end .

Right now i am still fiddling with an Haswell 4770K and ProcessLasso trying to make ground textures even sharper without getting to much heat.

I know and can tell that HT ON is improving ground texture handling .

Right now i disabled the last core two cores via Lasso in HT mode and so far temps has dropped 25%

Still a smooth ride between KSDF to KDEN as SWA 3918

So what is your settings ?

Benefits HT off or ON

VFR ?

IFR ?

Thanks

 Michael Moe

get a 8600k Michael...  just landed with nearly everything on max and it was at 40 fps

First few pics I had my monitor on 30hertz and locked the 30.  then the last pics I had it back to normal on 60 hertz and unlimted frames with in the vc on the fsl hit 40 and out side was around 75...

Ive never been happier
