Orbx's TrueEarth scenery, WILL be the nail in the coffin for FSX/P3D

XP deserves credit now more than ever, to be fair.  As a default sim, it can be made to look super cool with just a few free addons (and the payware addons are not as expensive as P3D (Aerosoft maybe)).

It's a very conflicted situation for some people as XP has some very cool things about it with massive promise -  yet unfortunately, it has some clear cut deal breakers which makes the obvious choice more opaque.

Yep, I agree with this. The dullness and visual problems with lighting and glowing trees is not doing the default sim any favours. But to be fair, default P3D is certainly no winner in the beauty department either :)

I can't disagree here. I have seen if  when installing 4.0 from scratch for a couple of days. Which was a pretty shocking experience, notably the default textures are weak.

Kind regards, Michael

Well, if you want out of the box beauty you have to get Aerofly FS 2, in which the sun really shines!  (Unfortunately the sun ALWAYS shines in that sim LOL ) P3D out of the box is really awful (I refuse to start it up before installing my Orbx addons, AS, SF and PTA) and XP didn't excite me either (although it's been a year since I had that one installed). But well, I doubt if ANYONE here uses his or her sim default out of the box... Anyway, I think it is absolutely GREAT that Orbx will be releasing TrueEarth (and many more addons) for all those sims!!! That is at least ONE thing we all can agree on (for once!)!

I used IL2 BoX, and DCS, and I use ELITE IFR and now Condorsoaring v2  out of the Box ! They're just as good :-)

But honestly Jeroen, you should revisit XP11, and maybe try the FF A320 or the Toliss A319... They're certainly on pair with the FSlabs A320 - my only P3Dv42 add-on.

If the TrueEarth discount is high enough I might install XP again and buy a region for it for testing purposes but well, I have to say that I found my prefect match: the Q400 really is my most favorite plane EVER, not only when it comes to how it is simulated by Majestic but also the plane itself (though looking odd and ugly at first sight) really is my kind of plane. It's the best of all worlds and totally suited to my kind of flying. Which is why I am not too interested in XP other than to see how TrueEarth looks and performs in it. Of course TrueEarth will be suited more for GA flying and I do have a Piper addon lying around for XP so... who knows... I expect more of Aerofly FS 2 though, when it comes to performance and graphics.

If there is one thing I really miss from my FSX install, it's that aircraft. I may need to reinstall it again for P3D v4

its good that we disagree on some things, all of us...some of the most interesting threads start when people disagree.  :p  Personally I see that as a good thing, within limits :). Ive never perceived youve been inappropriate myself...

Well, my intention, was never to rouse a tempest...!!!  Just to, well...well...yeah.....to just state my feelings and impression of the impact, that the new Orbx TrueEarth tech, will impart. Of course, there will be many that won't agree with me. Then again, there can be just as many, ....that do. Not everybody posts on forums...many just visit and read.

Come on, referring to anything being "the nail in the coffin for P3D" was always going to rouse a tempest!!

But IMHO there's nothing actually wrong with that. Perhaps we are all becoming snowflakes.

I rate you far more entertaining and likeable than Clarkson, Mitch.  And I'd bet your dress sense is way better too.

TrueEarth looks amazing and it will be a big seller in X-Plane. Too bad they do not take paypal anymore, there will be missing out on some customers.

geeezzz XP vs P3D again!

The never ending soap-opera, ridiculous!!!!

Can't figure out why if Mitch wanted to express his on personal views, and rightly so, people from the other sim, come back here and post with a vengeance. Grow up, neither sim is good out of the box, why cant we all realize that.

XP: Weather, ATC, visuals, suck big time

P3D: Weather (doesn't have one), cartoon visuals, sttttuuuuttteers, blurries, fly_on_rails, suck big time

All suck out of the box one way or another, including IL2 and the others Jcomm likes to fly.

Big deal, stick with what you like and let this be the last episode of: XP vs P3D soap opera.
