December 18, 20187 yr Prepar3dV4.4 seemed like an update just tying up loose ends. this forum posts had some slight proof that v5 may come soon, wich gives me hope that Truesky will maybe be in V5 I mean, who wouldn't want this, i guess yeah AS and Rex would only work in V4 but still, this is way better than wierd laggy overcast and stretched textures right?
December 18, 20187 yr First, the post linked is hardly evidence V5 is coming soon; I suspect we're 2 years away. Secondly, LM has a pretty good relationship with 3rd party developers; to that end, I highly suspect they'll allow said companies to improve the simulators weather, vice reaching a licensing deal to employ TrueSky. The former seams logical given LM primary market. Having said that, I'm sure they do what they've done with the prior 4 releases; improve the SDK to allow developers to improve their applications. Finally, do you really think TrueSky is on par with AS16 & SF commination? Edited December 18, 20187 yr by kingm56 Matt King

December 18, 20187 yr TrueSky? Mmm, more like Pie in the Sky, think I'll stick with ASP4 & SkyForce AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 4.2 32 gig ram, Nvidia RTX3060 12 gig, Intel 760 SSD M2 NVMe 512 gig, M2NVMe 1Tbt (OS) M2NVMe 2Tbt (MSFS) Crucial MX500 SSD (Backup OS). December 18, 20187 yr FSW's implementation of TrueSky was enough to temper my enthusiasm for it. But maybe they were not taking full advantage of the product. Chris
December 18, 20187 yr While I was a great supporter of FSW, I think their less than smooth implementation of True Sky contributed to diminishing enthusiasm for the sim. True Sky was never right from day one, and months passed without a fix. tc
December 19, 20187 yr TrueSky never got fully implement in FSW and was still being worked on when the plug was pulled, but I think it will come to a flight sim some time in the future which one is who knows !. Raymond Fry.
December 19, 20187 yr TrueSky or not, something radically has to be done with regards to how Prepar3D displays and depicts clouds! ActiveSky and SkyForce is impressive, but they don't resolve the critical and fundamental issues, that the engine doesn't support truly volumetric 3D clouds (either build up by objects somehow or particle clouds). Clouds are still 2D sprites - which then is patched and tweaked somehow to be able to display cloud shadows... There's a lot of issues with cloud depiction in the sim, IMO. The lighting of clouds is off - or rather, clouds doesn't receive light properly. I was kinda hoping of a trueSky implementation in Prepar3D at some point... If not that, it's my dear hope, that Lockheed-Martin will, at some point, completely overhaul the cloud- and weather implementation and depiction engine in Prepar3D. But sadly, I don't think it's especially high in Lockheed-Martins agenda and/or roadmap. So I'm not holding my breath. To be honest, I think I'll be taking a look at X-Plane and xEnviron 1.10 (which is in development). December 19, 20187 yr I can't even see a smidgen of evidence that P3Dv5 is even anywhere near the horizon. I read through that post earlier, and it's pure clickbait. I've no idea how people can fall for it. Best regards, Neal McCullough
December 19, 20187 yr I think most of us know that v5 is a long way away. We just love to speculate. 😀 As for TruSky, it didn't save FSW, and I'm very happy with the atmosphere I get from ASP4/SkyForce 3D & PTA. MSFS
