I think they might have more data they don't put for public access. We will see as they share more info about the tech. I really hope you’re right on this one. It would be a bit of a downer to have this fancy new technology with accurate 3d autogen restricted to “only” a few small areas, even more so as we know the data exist (sadly on the wrong servers). Actually I hope that so, because GE is miles ahead on photogrammetry. Every small city in Europe and USA is in 3D and with bing "only" 150 around the globe. I hope they upgrade their photogrammetry in those 18 months. cheers Carlos NLR Motion Platform V3, Intel Core i9-9900K OC @ 5Ghz, Gigabyte Gaming OC 11GB RTX 2080ti, Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Ultra. Luckily, I love flying in the States, especially in the Rockies. Hi ganter, what are you using the view London/Buckingham Palace in 3D? In Earth View I don't see any 3D in the UK apart from Southampton.
July 11, 20196 yr I'm sure that Microsoft will be releasing Microsoft Flight Simulator, known as MFS. Is MS2020 a forum named MFS? Why do forum posters insist on renaming official named things with made up names? Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
July 11, 20196 yr Isnt it kinda odd that Google has all kinds of 3D mapping in Europe for big cities, ms MS Maps has very little in comparison. No London , Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam to name a few. Yet they list smaller cities. At least on the map Im looking at. You would think this will be rectified somehow by the time release comes. Share and or cross license data if you have to. July 11, 20196 yr 11 minutes ago, Flamingpie said: This is getting a bit OT but anyway: MS2020 may perhaps describe it 'pretty well' (although it's one of the worst abbreviations possible because it doesn't even include FS... so it might as well be ANY MS product that will be released in 2020...! 😎 ) it does give a different feel to what's coming (afaik). MS2020... no, sorry, I just have to add that FS: MSFS2020 makes it sound that a one time release of a new flightsim is coming and we will never know what happens next. We will probably get a few updats/bug fixes but other than that... Will there be an FS2021...? Or 2023...? No one knows. It feels limited. MFS however feels unlimited: Microsoft has announced it as MFS on purpose because it will not be limited to 2020 and it will not be a one time release with a few possible updates. It will be a 'forever' evolving and growing platform that will be here to stay for maybe decades! (I'm being a bit too positive maybe, I know. 😉 ) Microsoft left the year out of the name on purpose and I think that is absolutely wonderful! And the abbreviation MFS reflects this the best. It could indeed be any version of MFS but that's also done on purpose: they didn't come up with a new name because this will be the version to replace all others! Using abbreviations that include 2020 doesn't do this new platform justice. (And using MS in front of it is wrong anyway. 😉 ) I know, I know, it's of no importance at all but still... MFS simply is the most correct abbreviation. Thank You! I do agree with you that, as Microsoft has called it Microsoft Flight Simulator, WITHOUT any number/date, that the sim will be an ongoing & evolving sim, so, as you say, using fictional names & dates --2019 & 2020 -- & other crowd renaming of the sim does not do the platform justice. BTW as we all know, there are thousand of postings here on AVSIM, in a special Microsoft Flight Simulator Forum - NO DATES SPECIFIED - & I'm sure this will not confuse any reader, that MFS is any other sim but the to be released sim. There is nothing on the official MS/Xbox site using 2020 as part of the product name. That would be bad marketing anyway, with the new Xbox released during holiday season 2020 and the flight sim for the console along with it. One more month and it's 2021, where anything labeled 2020 immediately looks like yesterday's news. I started out using "the new MSFS" but lately shifted to MFS. I think the context of a forum post is enough to know we're not talking about the very first PC versions. July 11, 20196 yr We had a discussion arguing the name of the new sim in another topic. Please, lets not have two. It makes no difference what we call it at this point. We simply don't know other than it will be Microsoft and supposedly released in 2020. Back on topic please. Thank you. July 11, 20196 yr Yes it lists 3D cities, but these major ones in Europe are absent. Either they are getting done, or they will be filled in with Azure AI , or they will license the 3D cities from Google or other 3rd party I guess.
