Any word on seasons?

Good question Rob!  I'd love to hear an answer as well.  We got that (one season) already in X-Plane 11, well mostly anyway.  Maybe this forum can come up with a list of 'reasonable' show-stopper things that MS can chew on a bit - at least things that should be part of the core sim.  Maybe this list already exists, but I'm old and don't venture away from this thread unless I accidentally close my browser.

My understanding is more fuel leads to less wing flex, at least when airborne.  Wings should not flex very much on the ground (unless you're going over very large bumps, which really shouldn't exist anywhere an airliner taxis.

Ah you're probably right. As for wingflex on the ground, in my real life passenger experience some planes like the A330 and 777 have pretty bouncy wings during taxi. Not flight bounce levels, but it's noticeable and would be pretty nice to model from an immersion perspective like PMDG did in the sim.

Any word on seasons?  The preview video seemed to be another "Summer all the time" sim ... based on the ORBX thread regarding seasons for TE, it's clearly a "show stopper" for many ... hate to see this market segment get left out.

Cheers, Rob.

I really hope it's not at the cost of a new scenery engine/method, that would be unfortunate indeed.

No season would mean no real-time weather.

How does that follow?

XP11 has no seasons but it does have real-time weather injection. When the METAR says it's snowing, you see snow falling. It just doesn't accumulate on the ground like it would with changes in the terrain.*

*Actually snow does accumulate slightly on just the runway, but the implementation is weird and could look better.

In august they are supposed to start sharing something.

There are many reasons why I don't want to switch  to XP 😄 !

Weather is a set of many parameters, visual and atmospherics. That doesn't make any sense to me to have snow and no accumulation. Maybe in Paris, not in Anchorage or Moscow.

What about the vegetation ? Always green ? When  it is  -10° ?

Understood, and I'm not trying to get anyone to switch platforms, believe me. 🙂

I'm just responding to your "No season would mean no real-time weather" with an example of how the two aren't necessarily related.

Real weather is about the impact on your flight, with things like the risk of in-flight icing, or the slipperiness of the runway covered with ice or water, compared to a dry runway. Those things are important, and can be modeled without showing snow on the surrounding terrain. Ideally of course, we want both!

My question is  do you do that, right now, for lens flares in today's sims. That the first thing I do

For me personally DOF is the biggest offender, lensflare e.g. can imho add quite something to the immersion if done in a subtle way. But in most cases they are hopelessly overdone. JJ Abrams aesthetics sbdy?

I know lensflares are an optical defect caused by the camera system (I worked for years in the special FX industry for a living), but done right stuff like this can take CGI to a different level as far as human perception is concerned in accepting something artificial as real. Our perception is flawed from decades of watching cinema & TV, so nowadays lots of stuff showed in movies for many people seems to be the real deal. In contrast if they see footage of something real they think something is missing and depict the real thing as soething artificial.

Tldr: sometimes correctly used "eyecandy" can help to increase immersion and sell CGI to be the real deal. I do not reject a Sim or movie only just because an optical phenomenon is not 100% physically correct if it helps to sell the illusion. On the other hand, if e.g. the flightmodel is flawed and incorrect, it´s a show stopper for me.

Can´t wait to get better information and more details on MSFS2020, for now all is just speculation.

Would not this be very costly in performance?

I would hope the artificial cloud computing would help with this instead and prepare the simulation of the seasons using better technology.

I don't want to have narnia sim with summer all the time 😂.
