The official name is not the names that forum members have made up, such as FS2020, FS2019 or any other random name. Just saying, to keep things correct, as Avsimmers like to do. Hello Robin, then again, the URL for the official website is "FSI.microsoftstudios.com". Best regards LORBY-SI

That must be the understatement of the year! @Skywatcher Mark, no offence but surely you’ve come across Steve’s posts before now? Few can say they have invested as much time, effort and seemingly boundless patience helping to educate us on matters technical which frequently are quite difficult to grasp. Regards, Mike

It is designed for PC. 3rd party add-ons will be a thing as well as community content, which has to mean an open SDK. They will be working directly with the community. They even announced a roadmap coming in August, which is huge. Transparency is key for something like this. Go figure that's why they called it Microsoft Flight Simulator 😀 They didn't use that name likely. Of course the devil is in the detail and I think the likes of PDMG probably still have cause for concern until we know what the terms and conditions actually are for 3PD then everybody in the established development community will probably shy away at this point.
July 1, 20196 yr Commercial Member One thing mentioned by the FS team is the inclusion of Accessibility. Although they mention joysticks and so on. As it happens Accessibility includes the ability for possibly blind users to enjoy the sim. Screen readers need to be able to read menu items and navigate the screens. if you are working on an addon design now's the time to consider the inclusion of support for screen readers. July 1, 20196 yr We've asked that you take this technical/video discussion to another forum. This is the original announcement topic and has to do with the trailer. We had a pretty good discussion of armchair analysis of the trailer but now we have personal attacks, rude responses, and several pages of irrelevant discussions. This thread is now locked as obviously we've reached the end of any lucid and useful list of anything else we could want. If you have a topic that will be informative and relates to anything new that comes up, please start another topic discussion. Thank you. Very kind words, and very true. Steve has invested countless hours in helping others increase their knowledge level, and I've enjoyed the offline conversations with him very much. SteveW and Rob Ainscough have earned their place as trusted and knowledgeable mentors in our community and I am fortunate enough to count them amongst my small cadre of close, person friends in our hobby. I feel insulted for them by comments to the contrary. There is always new technology coming our way, and always room for friendly discussion, which leads to enlightenment and increased knowledge. After all, not one of us here know everything and we all make mistakes. The only unforgivable mistake is to purposely insult another member regardless of their experience or knowledge level. July 2, 20196 yr Are we allowed to talk about font scaling? I have had my computer attached to a g-sync 4k monitor and now a 4k hdr tv for the last few years and though font scaling has got better, the issue has not gone away universally. With games I find that generally most of them now will either scale automatically or there will be an option to scale the UI. Pretty much all triple A games just work out of the box, often smaller more niche games don’t Kerble is one, civ v also took a while to introduce scaling). With normal software I find it’s much more variable - photoshop is fine, ea origin is not. I’ll eat my hat if MFS doesn’t work fine though. As someone else said, DPI is the important figure, not really resolution.
July 2, 20196 yr Commercial Member I'm not sure what I can say about the new sim to be honest, without somehow appearing to be included with those spoiling the thread with personal problems and issues, unregulated by poor moderation. None of which are anything to do to do with me. I come here to post what I know in response to those making posts. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com

At the time of your post I was talking about the Announcement and Video trailer, from the link on the Original Post. This page shows the main FS page, 5 main points about the sim and the video. This page is Accessible. What that means is that screen readers like Narrator and NVDA find it easy to navigate with the Tab control key. I was discussing point 5. So I am sorry but I found it odd that you made your post right after my post rather than after those changing the subject and carrying on personal conversations. Apologies for any problems caused. I agree. For those who wonder what use a "blind" person would have for a flight sim, the word "blind" covers a wide range of visual impairment. My wife is legally blind but has some vision. She would be able to fly a plane in a sim but could never read the text on the screen, pretty much no matter how big it was. I've been there myself when I had cataracts. July 2, 20196 yr @SteveW @LHookins I take "accessible" in the MS statement context to mean usable by those of limited skill and experience in flying, easing newbies in with low barriers to entry (system hardware requirements etc) and a gentle learning curve (e.g. via tutorials), not necessarily "accessibility" features to make it more usable those who have impairments/disabilities that make computer gaming or PC usage in general difficult. That's true. As I mentioned they describe joysticks and so on. However the excitement for the blind pilots community is because when you use a screen reader such as Narrator you will find that you can't navigate FSX and P3D with the reader understanding the descriptions of the menus. On the new FS page screen reader accessibility is installed so that the page is easily navigable by Narrator. This kind of practice is improving dramatically in software products. For example try MSPaint3D with Narrator. We are hopeful that this level of accessibility is enabled in the new sim. Edited July 3, 20196 yr by SteveW Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
