This stuff is a nonissue in modern engines...

Provided I can turn it off. 😉 I hate the DOF effect. Let my eye focus where I want to be looking, thanks. Save the artsy stuff for photos and video.

why aren't any msfs developers spend some extra time during breaks to come here and give us some information or screenshots every couple of hours ? I mean if I was a developer working on this project I would love to share my work

Because it`s 8 months or more away and same reason LM don't come here to tell us what V5 will be, LR on XP.

Hi,

Fascinating thread....I think! Talk about building our houses on foundations of sand! I will say this, however. If nothing else, the plethora of wishful hopes and eager expectations, provoked by such a tantalisingly brief albeit impressive promotional video, have given Microsoft much to live up to. The words rod and back spring to mind. Let’s hope they are up to the challenge and the months ahead will be used well along with appropriate wisdom and careful circumspection.

The decision to reveal content at this stage in development strongly suggests that, indeed, what we have been privileged to witness has some basis in fact. Let’s hope that does turn out to be the case. I suspect this was more a demonstration of the sim’s future potential rather than what will be available at time of initial release. Hopefully there will still be sufficient to excite and satisfy our community and the monetary objectives pursued by its developers.

Regards,

Mike

I almost wish Microsoft had never teased with this trailer. Some of you guys are like a pack of wild dogs. Folks, it's just a sim. its a hobby, it's supposed to be fun!

Heck, in my world, I hate the sim! Going to the sim means I'm about to get my butt kicked! 🙂

This is called "passion", and its this level of passion that sets flight simmers apart. Without this passion, Avsim would be a boring and likely useless website. Can you imagine if all flight simmers said "its just a sim"? Would they buy power PC's and thousands of dollars in add-ons? Flight simming would last as long as MS Flight did....there would never have been an MSFS version 2 because MSFS version 1 would suffice, "its just a sim". Nearly 40 years strong, flight simming could not continue to exist without widespread passion.

The fundamental main thing I wish we would all remember or understand, is that we should be all on the same page headed toward "as real as it gets". Realism is the key, and to fight against realism, is to invite or wish for the death of homebased flight simming.

Is it passion or perhaps obsession... ?

The forum has an excellent tool, the « ignore user » function. I use it with no qualm for discourteous or bilious jerks. It makes reading the forums much more pleasant 😋, Once in the bin they don’t show up anymore.

To demand the kind of realism you want, and encourage others to demand it, is to invite or wish for the death of home based flight simming.

You end up setting up impossible barriers for the new simmer and anyone with just a casual interest.  The people who might want to get deeper into flight simming.

The kind of realism you want should be available, for a price from third parties, but it must NOT be forced on everyone with no other options available to them.

I think it's an obsession really... obsessed to have the most detailed, to be demanding, to have the lowest frame rates, to claim that certain developers are the best.

And, actually, it's not about realism as all, it's about immersion, with the add-ons that we use.

The fundamental main thing I wish we would all remember or understand, is that we should be all on the same page headed toward "as real as it gets".

Actually, that's obsessive talk indeed! Not everyone wants to be on the same 'as real as it gets' page...

Simming is all about Fun, Facts & Fiction. Not everyone wants PMDG type aircraft. There are, believe it or not, some that get enjoyment from sailing a bout.. HMS Bounty, as an example, or checking out scenery by driving a car around, or even flying a space ship. We are NOT lessor simmers for doing that.

Realism is the key, and to fight against realism, is to invite or wish for the death of homebased flight simming.

Utter rubbish.. The immersion factor has seen FS2004 lasting for 16 years, and is still very much supported by developers & users.

Dominique, in the post above says it all! It's a hobby, using a game that simulates a simulator, unless you are using P3D, of course!

Its also interesting that we have not seen any female responses (I have not noticed any, I could be mistaken) in these hundreds of pages of comments within these Avisim forums. LOL.. possibly big d_ck syndrome/p_ssing contest between guys who enjoy demanding & bragging?

Regarding Realism vs Immersion...

We found the sweet point with our Avro Shackleton Simulator (using actual Throttle quadrant, Yokes, pedals & seats, when real pilots (& simmers) bumped themselves in their seats, anticipating touchdown... Thats what immersion is all about, not realism.

So the Holy Grail should be how immersed can you get!!

BTW, & thats using FS2004 with Aeroworx freeware scenery.

Hey Wobby. I remember being totally immersed listening to radio shows as a kid. Then one or two shows come out on tv and just didn't look right.

Fear of change can be a powerful thing.  I'm sure some people who have a financial interest in the status quo feel negatively about the coming FS2020, but some people who have lots of money invested in the current sims are likely just mad about having to start over again.  Certainly many people will stay with their current sim and totally snub FS2020 for that reason alone.

Personally I'm ready and willing to completely start anew, as long as the positives outweigh the negatives.  And from what we've seen and read so far the positives look absolutely outstanding.

I fired up Prepar3D v4 last night (for the first time in a year or so). FlyTampa airport, ORBX scenery, Active Sky, Ultimate Traffic Live + custom freeware AI traffic, PTA, REX - The works. I flew for ten minutes, then meh... I'm tired of the same old autogen world, stutters and texture popping... If I was interested in systems simulation only, Prepar3D has more than I could ever wish for, but I'm in it for the entertainment factor. It's been a fun ride, but I'm ready for something new, even though I've wasted 1000s of $ in addons for FSX and P3D over the years.

I do not see that addon purchases have been a waste, I think of it more as putting fuel in for the journey.

Depends... Software that limits how and when it can be used is a waste in my book. If I invest in software I'd like to be able to use it forever. I still play MS-DOS games that I bought in the 1980s, and use old versions of MS Office and Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom as I'm not willing to pay a monthly or yearly fee. The current use of DRM has reduced my addon and software spending considerably.

I'm the same when it comes to music, books and movies. I own physical copies of everything I like. I don't want Spotify or Netflix to dictate what, when or where I enjoy music and movies.

One of the despicable things that Microsoft did with Flight was to remove the option to acquire the remaining DLC after they suddenly canceled the titled. That means those who want to play the game now can't "complete" it. Things like that annoys the ¤#%&" out of me. I hope they don't repeat the same mistake with the new sim. If it relies on streamed content I'm fearful that it will be a limited window of time to enjoy the sim. Not that I won't use it, but it will severely reduce my investment in DLC for the sim.
