July 9, 20196 yr Speaking of dirt and weeds, I would like to see possums, pole cats and armadillo road kills on the highways and a random deer, dog and cat that's been lain in a ditch for days and all swolled up and maybe some buzzards circling. I really miss my F1 Skycatcher that had bug splats on the windshield too! <Please forgive my sarcasm...couldn't resist.> Edited July 9, 20196 yr by SmokeDiddy AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 4.7GHz - 5.2GHz|CyberPowerPC MasterLiquid CPU Cooler|MSI PRO B850-VC WiFi Mobo|GeForce RTX 5070 12GB|DDR5-6000MHz 32GB|950 PRO M.2 2TB|850 EVO 500GB|2TB Seagate FireCuda SSHD|CyberPower ATX|850 Watts - Standard 80 Plus Gold PS|Win11 64bit Home|MSFS2024 Std Ed I love the smell of Jet-A in the morning! When they do Texas, they're gonna have to include dead armadillos. I never will forget the slaughtered cow I saw in upstate New York when I was a kid. It was dark. The interstate was white concrete. and then there was a massive mile long blood trail that ended in a large carcass. I'm assuming it was a cow. kind of a horror show actually. nobody needs that. When I'm flying along a highway, usually in a helicopter, I stay high enough to keep from hitting the tops of 18 wheeler trailers. And trees. And power lines. Probably not much to see from that height. Northeast of Dallas it's mostly skunks, and smell-o-vision is more realism than I care for. Your mileage may vary. 🙂 It might be more interesting to have to run wildlife off a runway before you could land. Sheep. Bears. Deer. Whatever. And for barnstormers landing in cow fields, you have... well, you figure it out. 😄 Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
July 9, 20196 yr Author one of my all time favorite movies is called Silver Streak. its about a guy (Gene Wilder) who witnesses a murder and gets thrown off a train and ends up wandering through the desert where he finds an old lady who will take him into town. he thinks she means in a car but she has a bi plane and along the way they buzz some sheep. Thats an awesome movie. I recommend it. | Dave | I've been around for most of my life. There's always a sunset happening somewhere in the world that somebody is enjoying.

I think it was in XP10 that Austin decided there should be deer hazards on runways. That was introduced with bird strikes too (very annoying when trying to complete an FSEconomy flight and a bird takes you out). There used to be a checkbox for that in settings, but in XP11 it's buried in a .prf file. I haven't seen any deer in a while though, so maybe it's disabled. You couldn't actually run the deer off, they were just auto-generated on a path, and you had to abort if they crossed the runway. In real life many years ago, I was hiring bush pilots in Central and South America for photo shoots. I remember many landings where the initial pass was at low level over a grass strip, to make sure there wasn't a cow or pig on the runway. With one "runway" near a beach, it was a check to make sure that sea turtles hadn't dug any new nest holes in the landing strip. See, this low level detail stuff matters! 😀 X-Plane and Microsoft Flight Simulator on Windows 10 i7 6700 4.0 GHz, 32 GB RAM, GTX 1660 ti, 1920x1200 monitor

One of the cool things about having to do a low level pass over a runway or field to run off sheep is that you don't exactly do it at idle power. You come blasting in as low as practical at high power. It's not only not frowned upon, it's expected! 😄 Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I'm interested to see if the new MFS can deliver that. Especially for weather and in a few other areas. If not right away, then at least a good foundation for getting there eventually. That doesn't mean we can't talk about what the current baseline is for comparison, which will be different for each of us. We’ve just about run out of stuff to talk about given the trailer video and written statements. They’ll probably keep dropping bits of info along the way until release. I'm hoping MS provide features we don't already have or fix some of the more obvious issues around morphing terrain (geometry change based on higher or lower res mip), floating cars/buildings. Make dynamic lighting everywhere and shift to deferred rendering to improve performance of DL, and improve on dynamic reflections and shadow quality, and avoid some of the shadow issues I've seen in the demo and other 3D shooters where one can see an obvious render issues where shadows render based on LOD as one moves in the world ... which I find very distracting ... seen this in DCS also and I know it's done for performance reasons, but any moderate to high speed aircraft and the shadow render based on a close LOD requires more "blind eye" than I'm willing to give. Cheers, Rob. If you have to pay an extra for it. Then you don't have it. He is talking about default sim. Guys, for what I read here, I know a lot of you likes third party addons. But other of us don't like to pay hundreds of euros just for the sim to looks visually realistic. I think that default good visual quality and effects is a must on 2020. We can not have the same as we had in 2006, just bucause "someone else could do it"...
