August 24, 20196 yr Would also like to see some sort of programmable dataref, for comm volume. This would allow addon aircraft (and networks such as POSCON) to simulate the comm volume knobs on the comm panel of aircraft.
August 24, 20196 yr Commercial Member So I see wishlists are popular. After so many years in flight simming (20 years actually), I think I know what I would like to see, and what drives me nuts in P3D/XP11. Here we go: 1. XP11/Aerofly FS 2 like super smooth physics, where you can feel the air, not fly on rails. Better turbulence modelling, with actual calculation of surrounding terrain. 2. NO MORE CFG TWEAKING to get rid of low fps or stutters, slow scenery loading, black or flashing textures, etc. 3. No more scenery library PLEASE! Layering drives me nuts. 4. Proper usage of all cores and gpu, I'm sick of seeing CPU and GPU working at 40-60% during the flight. Practically we could see twice the fps, and 50% less stuttering in P3D. 5. Terrain smoothing under the airports, no more taxing or taking off on polygons. With custom meshes it's a mess. 6. Completely new sound engine, like FMOD. Sick of adapting my soundpacks due to sound engine bugs or limitations. 7. Built in proper flight planner, with easily upgradable navdata. 8. Easy integration of addons. Better stability with tons of addons. Easier troubleshooting when addon is causing problems, not just CTD without a message, or a famous ntdll error. 9. Better ATC is welcome. 10. Non-idiotic AI. Normal AI landings (not -900fpm ones) , player and proper ATC awareness, using SIDs and STARs, etc. 11. Built in weather injector like, Active Sky is more than welcome. I could probably add 5 or 6 more, but let's say that's it for now. 🙂 Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.
August 24, 20196 yr I want a ki co-pilot. One point would be to transfer all my tasks to him, if I have to leave on a long flight. The other point would be to transfer some of the tasks for beginners through the ki co-pilot. How many and which tasks should be adjustable
August 24, 20196 yr I would like to see all aircraft, default or 3rd party, have a consistent interactive checklist system. Ideally the pilot could select 3 levels of checklist interactivity for each aircraft: 1. Full instructor support -- With this checklist you have an instructor that guides you through the checklist with voice and visual support (like glowing knobs and switches). Sort of like DCS tutorials. 2. Visual guides only -- this checklist drops the instructor voice, but still highlights the knobs and switches as you go through it. 3. Checklist only -- once you're familiar with an aircraft you can just have the checklist with no other voice or visual support. I think this would be a nice thing to have on all aircraft as long as it's done in a consistent manner. In real life you would have an instructor guide you through the operations of a new unfamiliar aircraft and this would sort of fill that gap. Plus it would be handy for all levels of pilots wether it's someone completely new to flight simming or someone with 10k + hours trying out a new plane. I'd love to see Microsoft make this feature a requirement for all aircraft.

Just set Spotify to play in the background and control it with your smartphone app. No need to add things like that to the base simulator. But I get you, I do the same sometimes on leisure VFR flights or when playing Truck Simulator. I know you can do it already, but many games now enable you to play Spotify playlists directly - sometimes by using a virtual stereo of some sort actually in the game. Obviously it’s not a critical feature in the grand scheme of things though.

I do think an avenue this game could be successful in would be a part of the chilled out, relaxing, but with depth crowd - being able to control my kylie minogue playlist whilst cruising around the Caribbean would be lovely, and nicely immersive. I don't think the MSFS team should waste their precious developer resources on things like this given that the functionality is already provided by the Xbox Game Bar: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-on-windows/social/use-spotify-in-xbox-game-bar-on-windows-10 I think some of these suggestions are starting to veer well outside what should be appropriate in a first version Flight Simulator. Fundamentals first then fluff well later on. Edited August 24, 20196 yr by elmar01

August 25, 20196 yr Clouds/Weather -Volumetric coluds with good modeling sharp textures realistic effects and an improved model of how the cloud affects the aircraft. -Realistic Fog. I get so tired of being in 2mi visibility then all of a sudden at 2000 feet you can see forever. ActiveSky partially fixed this but the Fog needs to be clouds AND an effect layer. -Realistic IMC and atmospheric visibility effects. ESP and X plane just don't model it correctly. -Realistic rain effects, ,water on runways, snow accumulation. -200+ mile cloud draw distance with realistic cirrus clouds that completely block the horizon. The ESP engine only has 3 kinds of clouds. Dovetail was working on dynamic clouds but never got it right and it looks like MSFS2020 is making it happen. I'm a little worried from the trailer that were going to get cumulus clouds and the the rest of the cloud types will be like they are in the ESP engine. -Total elimination of cloud flicker on terrain or clouds in the distance. Water -wave effects based on wind direction and the strength of the wind. It looks like in the trailer they are going back to the one effect/texture method. -Correct water colors depending on the location. In ESP you only have water classes. But if you want a brown river, it shows up a light blue. Make actual brown, water. I'm hoping that the Ortho photo nature will give us realistic colors but that the effects don't change the color. -Better float plane effects, dynamic waves, more realistic handling characteristics on water. ATC -Less robotic voices and voices that change based on geographic location. It ruins the immersion when you are landing in Paris and the ATC talks to you like a Californian robot. Vatsim, I know but the lack of traffic sucks. -Actual approaches and departures called out by ATC. -Speeds called out and more realistic phrasing. Better ground control goes with better AI behavior. -Realistic approaches in while staying IFR for instance a straight in with a downwind approach. Not a 30 mile loop that pretends like it's going to be a CATIII approach even if it's perfectly sunny. -More realistic flight planning that takes TFRs, weather and winds aloft into account. In flight rerouting due to weather. -More realistic traffic avoidance calls from ATC. AI -AI actually holds a speed and maintains separation and exits the runway as quickly as a real pilot would. -AI models (including ground vehicles) make smooth turns and landings. AI stays at a realistic separation distance while taxing. -AI doesn't have an issue with sloped surfaces. Aircraft/Flight Dynamics -Better stall model with buffeting, X plane does a much better job with flight dynamics. -More realistic engine thrust and braking characteristics.Even 3rd party developers have issues with this because of the game engine itself. -Less linear handling. Small airplanes can turn very sharp but in FS/P3D they cant turn at a realistic rate. Wind effects on air frame need to be better. -Better perspective. I have always flown with 1.00 zoom level. In real life everything appears bigger than in the sim. -The avatar feature in P3D is cool and MSFS should expand on this and let you fuel, and do pre-flights like the A2A Cessna 172. Graphics -Darker ground at night, brighter in the day. More realistic night lighting. Much further light draw distance. -Better moon effects on water. Always looks way too bright. Helicopters/Other vehicles -The helicopters are horribly done in every way. Flight dynamics are terrible. There is not enough sensitivity in the controls. -More supports for boats, an excellent carrier environment. Has anyone seen Ace Combat 7s opening carrier launch in VR, it gave me chills. Military capable -MSFS could take over the entire flightsim market if they wanted to. 3rd party developers need to be given the tools to make realistic weapons and mission simulations. They don't need to be in the game to start (although an awesome Hornet would be nice) they just need to be able to be developed. Platform -The ability to do VR, or allow 3rd party developers to expand VR capabilities. -Built in VATSIM. And a way to get rid of the " gamer bros" that aren't interested in an immersive simulation experience. This is why I shudder the think this is coming to XBox. Hopefully, they can find a way to keep the serious simmer and "casual" simmer servers separate. You know what maybe just VATSIM on second thought. -Tower modes or spotter modes for watching traffic. -Sloped surfaces at airfields - people (ramp agents, refulers, pushback crew, people in the terminals, personnel at FBOs), Or the ability for a 3rd party to program it realistically. -better trees, plants and animal animations More birds. I like the video of flying over the flamingos. I've done the same with Canada geese, very intimidating. -Realistic emergency scenarios like miracle on the Hudson, Unconstrained / engine failure, depressurization, fire, emergency response once landed. It would make the simulation more immersive and interesting. -Realistic damage model. If you bring the nose down too hard it really bends the airplane or collapses the gear. -Realistic firefighting scenarios. or at least the ability for a 3rd party to create the addon. I have always been intrigued by simming with a purpose other than A to B. Agricultural uses would be a cool scenario too. I liked the c188 ag truck for FSX but felt it was not immersive enough there wasn't a good field to fly from. I know, too many demands... but if you don't ask or tell no one will know what you'd like to see.
August 25, 20196 yr Aniiran, that was an Excellent summary of what is needed for a capable and market-changing future flight simulator! I know there are a lot of civil-only enthusiasts here, but in my opinion, a flight simulator that is aiming at the broader aviation Enthusiast population, and ignores (or downplays) the military aspect is doing itself, it's potential client base, and it's marketing opportunities a HUGE disservice. In real life, many civil pilots transfer in mid-life from a military career over to a civil flight career (and the airlines enthusiastically recruit from this pool). In some countries this is pretty much the only or most viable route for youngsters to get going in aviation. I belabor this point only to emphasize that a flight simulator aimed at the masses (of aviation enthusiasts), and intending to reinvigorate its glorious past and re-become the defining market-leader again, should properly cater for BOTH categories. There is in fact, a SYNERGY between these genres. I note in support of this that many on this forum are ALSO active players on DCS, and comfortably alternate playing between the two genres. DCS could certainly do with some well-resourced competition. It does not cover the whole world, its aircraft are too expensive, and the training can be too complicated and (unnecessarily!) difficult for beginners. By contrast, MS has made it's name for getting this aspect of training and instruction "just right". Other I would also like to see a crop-duster aircraft and application that somebody could use to plan for and execute in a real-world mission on a farmer's orchid almost anywhere in the world. Aircraft Accidents An endless catalog of important accidents with learning-worthy lessons that will challenge your skills and knowledge. Could you do better than the original participants? Aircraft Tucano - armed to the teeth. Osprey - a "new flight Sim aiming to redefine the genre" that doesn't include this new aircraft type, is not taking its mission-statement challenge seriously enough. Bell's new twin-rotor evolution of the Osprey. A400M Build your own aircraft Expand greatly on the premise of XP Plane Maker! No boring lists or tables only. Make the creation process as-you-select dynamic and vividly pictorial. And where possible, hooked into real-world availabilities. Import your own weird concoctions from Blender or Max, and kit them out with commercially available stuff, or design your own. Test fly, crash and fail realistically. You made the landing gear too weak, and it collapses. Then you made it super strong but now so heavy, the plane can't do more than a brief hop on take-off. Bring AI to this process in a big way! Make all this "imagineering" so easy and intuitive that schoolkids can do it at home, and university students can use it in competitions. In short, MS please just do a "Fortnite" here and re-invent the future. And like Yesterday, please! From the kid in me. And I'm not kidding, Kiddo! 🤗🙁😭

If maintenance is needed you need to fly them to an authorized maintenance hangar. Sounds like it could be quite popular. This would be cool as long as there is a way to bypass or turn it off. One thing I loved about A2A’s accusim airplanes is that you had to be careful how you flew them and keep up with maintenance. But after a while I just want to jump in an fly without doing a full walk around. After hundreds and hundreds of walk arounds, cold and dark starts and taxing from the ramp, I’ve gotten to the point where I’m ok starting lined up on the active with engines running ready to go 😁 Chris
