In-game VS Satellite

That Tanzania picture has to be 100% land class doesn't it?

It looks nothing like the satellite photo.

Phil Spencer said back in the E3 interview that the AI would fill-in the gaps where data was non-existant or not good enought. What I understand here is the Azure will use as much as possible the bing imagery, but in places like that it will create textures to blend well with the rest of the closer terrain. Just my guess.

I mean, I don't think it will be 100% landclass. I'm not even sure we should call this new tech as landclass.

In most cases, I prefer the in sim image to the bing one.

I'd say in every case.

Great job! The sim ones look so good, I'm drooling...

I hope it‘s a mix between sat imagery and land class textures, i.e. as you get closer to the ground a high-res overlay texture (such as grass, sand, dust etc) fades in. The weeds shots and one scene in the trailer (the one with the strange-looking creek) point in that direction.

You're right, the embedded clouds in the ground photo images from Bing aren't present and ruining the in-sim experience.

I know that the lighting in the sim plays a big part in the presentation of the ground images, but they really are much, much better than the ones from the map app.

Just consider that we don'tk now what image set they used. Maybe they are updated Bing Maps images. Maybe it's a new set entirely. Maybe it's something processed by Azure. Maybe it's something hand corrected just for few areas. Sure it is impressive buuuuut we still have to wait to know more about the sim to see what the average experience will be like.

In the Marseille screen for example most of the shallow waters are not showing in the sim, which is a real shame because it happens a lot when flying in Italy too. We have lots of amazing coast lines but not having the shallow water showing up well, you miss something relevant to the eye candy 🙂

Wait until Google comes with Stadia's GFS based on Google Maps 3D World, then we talking about looking gooood.

Great work and thank you.  Time of day, seasons, cloud conditions are all significant and it is hard to get a real comparison.  But if diurnal and seasonal changes, along with light and weather are handled competently in the new sim, then I will be delighted.  A moment by moment exactitude would be expensive beyond belief so reasonable depictions of season and diurnal times are to me all I would expect.  If you want an exact replication of real life situations and colours, go learn to fly.  Then you will be so intent on flying the plane and knowing where you are, the details of the outside, except for cloud levels and turbulence become far less important.  Said by someone with 2000 hrs+ and a full IFR rating.

Sim shot seems to have the same void patch on the mountain compared to the sat image. Maybe a clue that AI is interpreting orthophotos and putting 3d objects (trees here) where they should be. Unless Aspen is a custom handmade location, of course.

"Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".

I think it really is quite remarkable how it seems like whatever software they're using is able to automatically read a 2-dimensional satellite image, and create an appropriate autogen building. This one particularly stuck out to me. It's just a random apartment building, and yet the "autogen" (if it's even appropriate to call it that), matches the overall shape of the actual building. I wonder how they're able to accomplish this. I suppose the AI is able to examine the satellite image and deduce automatically? If so, that really is quite amazing.

And below, a close up view of the actual building in the circle. The flight sim shot shows the walls having a reddish color like in real life, though I wonder if that's merely a coincidence.
