What we know (confirmed)

A ton of info has been released today (thanks Microsoft and Asobo), it has become difficult to digest all of this and threads are appearing like mushrooms.

Let's list below what has been confirmed until now and please, if you have been at the Seattle event, feel free to add what you know

  • Satellite imagery depicted everywhere (up to 30 cm)
  • Aerial photoghrapy with much higher resolution.
  • Photogeometry for 1000 or so environments, 460 cities, down to 3 cm.
  • The graphics engine supports seasons on the fly, and is not currently implemented, but will be prioritized based on what people are requesting the most.
  • VR has been the top request, and seasons have come in second. They are really listening to the most vocal here. This makes me very happy. I am still listening to the interview and will update as needed.
  • They are targeting low end machines but the graphics are scalable. They are confident that they can optimize for additional FPS and detail, and is highly configurable.
  • SDK will be released with the tech alpha or soon after.
  • 3rd party content, including freeware. can be installed outside their marketplace. They are encouraging it--Incredible!
  • They did not remove or lock down user modifications (such as text file configs related the airplanes), and in fact are improving the ability to do so, and improving it. What was closed, such as binaries are now open.
  • Exposed more variables etc.
  • Dynamic rolling cache, so you don't duplicate downloads
  • Configurable bandwidth allocation.
  • Free updates throughout the sim's lifetime.
  • Plan to add helicopters in the future, depending on demand from the users.

This information starts around the 17:00 mark.

• Realtime reflections!
A real important feature for me! It makes a world of difference imho. I always hated (and often disabled) those baked in reflections. Very happy to see realtime reflections in several video's! 🙂 I am surprised hardly anyone mentions this.

Example: check for instance 7:10 in this video: PRE-ALPHA Gameplay Footage

DX12 with ray-tracing would be better.

They have confirmed whilst there is not true ray tracing, they have "emulated ray tracing" and preview videos show this to work quite well. As it is emulated you won't need a latest gen graphics card to get the effect. There is a discussion at https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/560022-its-not-ray-traced/.

We know that we don’t know what the final name of the game is yet (as per the avsim interview).

Could we slightly change the policy for this thread, so that people have to post links to whatever confirms the thing in question?  For example, someone mentions simconnect is confirmed above, and I love to be able to go see where they've confirmed that.
