September 30, 20196 yr I was browsing a couple of news sites earlier reading headlines like « Such-and-such airport released for XP3D simulator ». How many people I wonder will no longer be buying scenery for legacy sims now that we’ve seen up close what’s coming next year? As long as there’s a usable default commercial jet in FS2020 I will be jumping on it like a dog in heat and I’m (not really) sorry to say the legacy sims will be gone from my hard drive.

When I find myself not starting up a sim in a year...then I'd say it's time to move on from it :) That does not detract from how great this new sim could be, it's more a function of me liking certain legacy add-ons, like the Cal Classic 1960's sceneries for FS9. It just felt like a distraction of resources to me. Probably all about the revenue available in that channel I’m sure. I wish LR/XP the best, but I’m mostly uninterested in what they have on offer at this point. (Especially in light of new MSFS)
October 1, 20196 yr Watching Frooglesim's video on his meeting with the MFS team and his glowing review I'm very excited about this. He was advised that yes they brought the FSX franchise back over but almost completely stripped it and a French company is doing much of the ground based stuff etc. Looks like P3D and X-Plane will be a thing of the past for me. If you talk too much about comparison and potential impact on the sim you're currently flying in the Avsim MSFS forum, you can get accused of being off topic at best, or proselytizing or word not allowed-ism at worst. I think it's healthy to have some of these conversations in the "home" forum for your current sim. Just my opinion. i was right👍😂

I don't know what X-Plane 12 will be or when it will be released, but barring any breakthroughs by Laminar, I won't be spending any more on X-Plane 11 addons until I see what Microsoft's new sim has to offer. Austin will have no one to blame but himself if MSFS once again relegates him to the margins. Loyal XP10-11 users have been begging for fixes to things like weather, clouds, ATC, and ground physics for half a decade and he spends his time doing other stuff while maintaining a snail's like pace on the things most users care about. October 1, 20196 yr I think it was in that q&a session where they said that they hoped their rivals (and the specifically mentioned p3d and xplane) would follow them to this sort of level at some point, and that competition is good etc. Sometimes it takes a behemoth to throw enough money (or a genius) at something to make a generational leap in the state of the art and everyone else has a mark to try and reach then.

If it's low-quality, why bother? It's on the radar for sure, and since release is so far out (middle of next year), maybe things will fall into place by then. Edited October 1, 20196 yr by dal330200

Yeah, I just watched that. I've been thinking the same in reverse- that X-plane and P3D have a chance to step up their game and change direction now. However, I don't see that happening unfortunately. That, in my opinion has been the problem all along. Both devs did a lousy job of listening to the community, and Microsoft took the opportunity to swoop in under the radar and blow us all out of the water. Maybe X-plane and P3D, in a couple of years, will fill in gaps that MSFS has- time will tell, but as it stands now, as long as MSFS has core features that are equal to or better than P3D or X-plane, then those sims are in deep deep trouble.
October 1, 20196 yr https://www.geekwire.com/2019/microsoft-flight-simulator-cloud/ the end of this article is quite interesting too. Basically the Microsoft guy says that there are almost ‘overwhelming’ discussions about what other applications there could be for this engine. I’m half expecting forza horizon 5 to be based in a photogrammetry area of flight sim now!
October 1, 20196 yr I agree with others here. But let's face it, even if LR and LM would have done their best in the last decade, MS is (and will be) throwing so many resources at MFS that realistically no-one could have competed. The mobile XP version (that people mistakenly think was distracting resources whereas, on the contrary, it provided financial resources for the development of PC version) could be the only thing that allows LR to survive in some way, because I don't see XP and P3D having anything different than (low?) single digits market share after MFS will be on the market for a while. That's something I thought of the first day. I was looking at doing boating and driving. Boating might work, the roads aren't good enough for a driving sim for the parts of the world I saw, but custom areas would work. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! While they are focusing on us at the moment, this project obviously has the potential to rake in cash for MS from many different corners.
