December 17, 20196 yr Not interested in either, frankly speaking, give me a great sandbox and I will be happy. This is a field MS should leave to outsiders (DLC). Same here. MS / Asobo rather focus on creating a simulation platform and leave these game elements to third parties.
December 17, 20196 yr I don’t know If mission vs. career/job board is an either/or choice. I think a good mission editor would support all sorts scenario creation including a career track. I would love to see a bunch of fun and challenging missions created. Again, I think back to Flight Unlimited II as well as some of the FSX missions. They were just fun. It would be great to have that again. Chris
December 17, 20196 yr Couldn't choose, honestly. They both have their pros and cons, so I'd be greedy and want both 😛 Missions are great for a quick flight, sometimes on repeat to try different approaches or get better. The continual career / mission system can be more engaging and addictive when you're in the right mindset. It loses its shine if you just want that quick flight with some defined goals. Especially if you just want a casual throwaway flight, you don't want to continue on a career mode you're invested in and mess up the progress. Hopefully we'll be seeing some editor tools, either natively or as part of the SDK. December 17, 20196 yr Career mode would be fun. Before you can fly anywhere it takes at least 30 minutes to fill in flight plans and other clearances. Your reward for gaining experience is decreasing paperwork and the fuel gets cheaper, you get direct clearance to land and a hire car to take you to the hotel. The adults-only version gets you more perks 😜
December 18, 20196 yr If I had to decide between those two as the topic suggests, then missions for sure. If I had to decide in general, then I don’t care for any of those. This is all game stuff to me. I want a flight sim.
December 19, 20196 yr I'd rather have a massively improved AI in free flight than missions and career modes. I do however like the way missions/assignments were organized in MS Flight, where you could land at an airport and get a mission, although the missions in MS Flight were pretty boring - but for some who just want to fly passengers or carry cargo, it would be a neat feature. Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!
December 19, 20196 yr Definitely interested in AI improvements! Career mode could be cool as well as missions, I enjoyed some FSX missions of old.
December 19, 20196 yr Missions are good for new users, and new users are good for our hobby. So i would go for missions. At a later stage a career /might/ be interesting but i suspect it won't keep my attention for long anyway because i'll want to fly whatever i want wherever i want whenever i want, without having to deal with buying planes, routes and anything of sort. Chock 1.1: "The only thing that whines louder than a jet engine is a flight simmer."

That's how I used to feel about flight sims too. Then I discovered Bush Flying Unlimited right here on Avsim like 15 years ago or so, and I learned that flying with a purpose into places I'd never fly on my own was actually rather awesome. When BFU started to fall apart I discovered FSE (Flight Sim Economy) and that literally transformed the way I use my flight sims forever. For more than ten years now about 90% of my flight sim time has been with FSE generating missions for me to fly. For me it's a wonderful pairing of very light game elements into flight sim, as the generated jobs give me reasons to fly into new areas under varying weather conditions coupled with light role playing and business building elements. In short it makes flight sims a lot more fun to me. I don't know if Microsoft has any plans to do something like this with FS2020, but looking at how popular the SCS Truck Sims have become for this very same reason I'm fracking certain they have at least considered it heavily. If they could turn FS2020 into the American Truck Sim of the skies then they'd have a HUGE financial hit on their hands, so I'm sure it is at least being contemplated.
December 19, 20196 yr If I will ever be interested in missions or a career mode highly depends on how the default airports in the new sim will look like. I don't see a point in a mission or a career assignment sending me into an immersion killing default generic airport. That's why so far I always gave up on any mission or career apps I tried.
