Where are you going to fly when MSFS is released?

Featured Replies

I have thought about this quite a bit and the answer is everywhere. I'm just going to have to explore everywhere. While I am waiting for PMDG to show up in the sim I will be pottering about the planet low and slow. Starting by bouncing around the UK over familiar sights and then into Europe, Down the West coast of Africa and back up the East and into the Middle east and Southern Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Then it will be up the Pacific rim to South East Asia, Eastern Russia and over into Alaska, Down through Canada and the West coast of the USA and South America before going back up the East all the way back to Canada and the jump over to Greenland, Iceland and back home to EGFF.

That should keep me going until the heavy duty tubeliners show up and probably until retirement.

I simply cannot wait😉

This was my first reaction to the title of the thread.

Based on my travel map I'd have to say it would be easier to list the places I haven't been yet.  I think Cape Horn may be the only one on my list of places I intend to visit but haven't yet.  I haven't completely explored southwest Australia yet, and there are some areas of China and Russia I haven't been to.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

So many places I've flown to check out, on fsx, or xplane, and said to myself, "meh"

Dover cliffs, new river gorge, Columbia river... meh.

I can't wait... even touring Michigan, I'll see islands, mountains, waterfalls? Rock cliffs, dunes, forests and of course, the lakes.

Same here.

Where i have been flying usually, in my country. We all gotta check if our houses are visible of course. Then i'll extend from there, with the preference of places with a nice mix of islands and sea 🙂

Dear spilok, perhaps you know and could suggest any really scenic & stunning VFR routes in your region? Just one or two, 100-400 nm long, you could simply give the origin - via - destination.

Thanks!

Here's one I like:

Fly from KABE (Allentown) to N38 (Wellsboro).  Great scenery along the way and Wellsboro is where PA Grand Canyon is located.  From there, I fly to KUNV (Penn State University).  Again, excellent VFR flying.  Clear skies required because some mountainous regions there.  I'll continue on to KIPT (Williamsport).  You'll actually fly over William Piper Memorial Airport (KLHV) where Piper built planes for many years.  You can land there if you wish.  Finally, I'll fly back to KABE from KIPT.

Nice relaxing scenic flight in my region.

Very true, aleex. I’ve been flying all these years in many places, all over the world. But I’ve also been NOT flying in many places because the sim landscape was not up to it. This is something I look forward very much to and hope that FS20 will be up to it. The Silk road in Eastern Asia, the Near East or the Amazon basin for instance . More recently I watched a couple of videos on YT about some really interesting Central America bush strips, in Costa Rica and Guatemala, that I will try early on. But how FS20 will handle these airfields is a big unknown for those out of the alpha loop.

Simming since 1981 -  [email protected] GHz with 16 GB of RAM and a 1080 with 8 GB VRAM running a 27" @ 2560*1440 - Windows 10 - Warthog HOTAS - MFG pedals - MSFS Standard version with Steam

I'm not sure but will start with scenic places from my FSX experience, such as around telerude, colorado. If it doesn't look good I usually don't go there. Just that I buy add-on scenery. And I want to see what I paid for which I can't  do at altitude. So I use GA and warbirds and fly low and enjoy the show. Besides, it is usually more fun for me to land without navaids using manual skills instead of mental kills. More challenging.

We grew up around  a small airport that had no navaids, no comms. But for hoeing weeds, there were free rides from the pilots (most of those planes there had no radio, I don't remember any with VOR). We did not yet have an automobile drivers license (too young). None of the airports we flew to had comms nor navaids. Everything was VFR, it's all I ever knew in real life. We knew how to follow roads and rivers and avoided potential bad weather days. Nothing was serious, there was no purpose to our flights besides recreation.

I remember making all kind of flights in FSX, in all parts of the world. But as you said, landscape was really similar everywhere, and after some years you get used to it.

Now I want to make VFR flights here and there, visiting photogrammetry cities, or even autogen ones, but having different feeling everywhere I go. Enjoying sunrise and sunsets, bad and good weather, surfing over the clouds, acting as a USCG near Miami just for fun! Same for IFR, arriving to every airport in a different way, with a different landscape.

Sounds good...

I bet most of you already have some planned routes in their heads or even on paper/PC. My plans are as follows:

- Start at my local (EPPO) airport and fly C172 around my city, find my house, see all those local POIs

Later, when I check every aircraft:

- Fly VFR around my country (Poland)

- Fly VFR around the shores of the Mediterranean sea (DA62)

- Fly VFR around Europe (TBM930)

I currently use X-Plane 11 and in 95% of cases I fly airliners IFR, so... my plans even surprised myself... GA aircraft and VFR... I guess only when I feel satisfied with all those stunning views I'll jump into a cockpit of something bigger.

So, what are you plans when MSFS2020 is finally released?

I was thinking of a ferry flight to be honest. Take the TBM from it's manufacturers location, I believe France, and ferry it to the US. UK, then Wick Scotland, then Iceland, then Greenland, then Canada. Might need to cheat with fuel to simulate fuel bladders at some point. Would be a great way to explore the new FS2020 scenery and features.
