Planes crash on short final in V5

Featured Replies

Yep same here.

Default Mesh short final RWY35 SKBG. Only have Orbx base and SA LC installed, which shouldn't be giving anyone scenery errors etc.

Not seen that kind of issue since FSX (remember the NZQN wall?)

Got to be a P3D v5 bug. I will report to LM. I was ion teh Real Beech Turbine Dukle at the time which othrewise runs perfectly in V5. Some of you are obviously running default planes though...

Thanks for reporting it. For me the mid-air crash happened with a default plane, the slam into the ground happened with an add-on plane.

Sounds like a terrain bug.  Hopefully LM can get a hotfix out quick.

Simulator: P3Dv6.1

System Specs: Intel i7 13700K CPU, MSI Mag Z790 Tomahawk Motherboard, 32GB DDR5 6000MHz RAM, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Video Card, 3x 1TB Samsung 980 Pro M.2 2280 SSDs, Windows 11 Home OS

Try dialing back the mesh resolution to 2m or 5m or lower.  When you set it to a higher (finer) resolution than the actual mesh in use, the sim interpolates between the datapoints...sometimes that interpolation results in invisible irregularities in the terrain. If you've ever done curve fitting and observed Runge's Phenomena, that's the sort of anomaly you're (literally) running into.

And make sure crash detection is off.

I had my crashes at 5m mesh resolution.

most likely  scenery related  does happen  in  v4  as well

Exactly, it also happens with default scenery SBRJ Rwy 20L (only 20L/R NOT 02R/L) and any third part aircraft (PMDG,FSLabs, CapSim) in P3Dv4. Sad that they didn´t fix this in V5.

Just a note that I had this in v4.5 a couple times in the maddog. Coming straight down the ILS and at ~50 feet suddenly I'm on the runway with a loud crash. These were at add-on airports and I suspect were mesh related problems possibly as @w6kd described.  Haven't encountered it in v5 yet, but I don't have much added...

I don't know the resolutions(s) of the default mesh data in v5, but I'd suspect 38m or possibly 19m.  So I'd suggest trying at those lower resolutions.  And in the interest of clarity, lower res = longer distance between sample points  e.g. 38m is lower res than 10m.

Some add-on sceneries include tighter 5m or 2m mesh, and the devs recommend those settings when using their scenery, but that can cause issues elsewhere.

Thank you Bob. I think if I really have to switch to 38m or so, I will wait for a fix and use 4.5 in the meantime.

I don't expect there to be a fix, honestly.  P3Dv3 and v4 both do it as well.  It's the combination of mesh data, the interpolation process, and the settings that create the issue...the only control we have is the mesh resolution setting or addition of third party mesh.  I can't imagine them changing the base mesh data unless there's a demonstrable anomaly in a particular location, and really zero change of changing the interpolation code.

If the base data is 38m and you dial it back to 38m, you're not losing anything but some potentially problematic synthetic datapoints.

I cannot fly Lukla at 38m.

So I would have to switch the mesh data to the native resolution of the scene I'm flying in? ORBX LOWI uses different LODs in the area of Tyrol. It's impossible there to always have set the native resolution.

I mean, I didn't have any crashes in 4.5. Never. In my virtual airline I cannot afford that to happen, my flights are not recognized then. So I will have to stay with 4.5.

I really hope that LM comes up with a fix. V5 is really great!

Had it happen with everything default except the Just Flight Arrow I was flying. Short final at TQPF. At 7 mm.

Been trying to get onto the P3D forum. I keep getting locked out the moment., My password seems not to work, and its ages since I went onto their forums.

Could someone report this to the P3D guys?

Thanks

It's working fine here.  Maybe try clearing your browser cache?
