The best, most reliable steering tiller for flight sim

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I am trying to find a reasonably priced stand alone steering tiller for simming. Any kind suggestions? Thank you.

Over the years I've never seen anything resembling for example a USB tiller for flight sim. There probably is something available for cockpit builders or perhaps some univeral rotory actuator that you have to make or 3D Print your tiller handle for. Seems like a relatively easy project to DIY. A one axis controller with no buttons!

A quick google search of flight Sim tiller is reveling 😁

Cut a cheap USB pc racing game wheel down to a quarter of the arc and you've got a tiller for not much money which looks like the real thing.

I've give it some though every now and again but never bothered because it use only breifly in each flight at the beginning and the end. Now I use a Microsoft Sidewinder forced feedback 2 for all flying and since I also use thrustmaster pedals for rudder, I mapped the spring loaded twist on the joystick to tiller. Works very well indeed. BTW I watched a little of your Chock's Hanger video for V5. Frooglesim has nothing on you. Nothing! Only 'Hanger Chock' I'd like better as you channel name.🤣

Yup, it'd be a lot of effort for something you might not use much, but then again, for people who enjoy making stuff, it wouldn't be a chore.

Depending on your setup...

i use the twist on an old joystick sitting off to the side of my desk.

Or if you have rudder pedals and a joystick for your main flight controls you could use the twist on that as the tiller

Have a look at this:

I've contemplated buying one, but I really need it to be a co-pilot side tiller to work with my setup.

Yes, please report if possible. What controller board are you planning to use? You only need an analog input and one button input. All boards I can find have multi analog and mega multi button functionality which are essentially not needed in this case. I would like to use renowned parts like Bodnar or Arduino but their boards seem over the top for my needs. A 12 bit analog input where I can connect a hall sensor and a single button input is all I really need. Does anyone know where I can find such board?

cheers,

I got the arduino board,  but haven't started to assemble yet.

A few of us off avsim have ordered the Cat3design tiller so hopefully there’ll be some reviews and comments coming in once they’re delivered.

My tiller from cat3design arrived last night.  And its awesome!  I have been looking for a high quality reasonably priced tiller for a few years now.  Seems i have found exactly what i was look for with Nobby's tiller.  Its made from high quality materials and designed to exacting specifications - each detail appears to be matching the real tiller in the 'bus.  While i have never actually flown a real 'bus, i have been in the flightdeck before and I can say this appears to be a very convincing reproduction of the real thing.  Setup was super easy using the tutorials that Nobby uploaded to his youtube channel - it took only a few minutes before i was up and running.  And once i was.....I was so impressed with the experience.  The tiller is amazing - it feels great in your hand and steers the aircraft around the ground in a very realistic manner.  Tension is good, increasing as the tiller moves thru the radius, always returning to zero without any springiness.  But most importantly, it adds another layer of realism to the whole flightsim experience.  The FSLabs bus is so immersive to begin with, its hard to enhance the experience.  But nobby has managed to build on it, capturing the spirit of ground movements in a very convincing manner with this amazing piece of hardware.  I am so happy I stumbled across the forum post.....the tiller was the one area of my flightsim setup that was lacking.....but thanks to Nobby, my cockpit is now complete.  Thanks Nobby - keep up the great work!
