This is why we need 2 different sims

First of all that XP video was made to demonstrate what can be done with the lights and effects. They were highly exaggerated on purpose, they were not made to look as realistic as possible. More important though that XP video is three years old. The fact that most people think that a three year old version of XP looks way better than the just released version of Prepar3d just shows the sad state of Prepar3d. To be honest that night landing video of Prepar3d isn't much different than it looked like in FSX ten years ago. On top of that we still have the same old rendering bugs.

Neither video is great.  The P3D one looks just okay....  XP11 one has those stupid star effects on the lights (something you'd see through a camera lens).

From my limited nighttime flight experience I'd agree that realism is somewhere in between.  XP11 can look better at night, but sometimes P3D can look better.

Has anyone noticed the pauses on approach in the P3D v5 video? My XP 11 is silky smooth on approach and landing.

I thought for sure he was either going to hit the 'wall' OR one of those long stutters / pauses would not stop & it would freeze / CTD.   thx for posting, I appreciated watching those.

Oh boy, here we go again ... fortunately "most people" (actually I have no idea, but what the heck, I'll make it up since you did) don't judge a simulator entirely on "night lighting".  As I pointed out earlier these aren't rendering "bugs" they are different methods of rendering (deferred vs. forward) and both come with limitations.

With that said I do tend to prefer XP11.xx night lighting, but how I judge a simulator extends far beyond night lighting.

Cheers, Rob.

I know eh, I was reluctant to post because some folks can get carried away, but however I like the video comparison, it gets folks talking about what might be possible doing this, that or the other thing, which is why I added my two bits.

And any one of us, who in this discussion are long time users, know fully well many of the limitations, pluses and minuses of each of these sims in my view.  It can help those newer into this I'm thinking.

P3D video clearly suffers from blurries and/or terribly low settings. Or does default textures and lighting really look that bad?

And such discussions might be helpful to carry some feedback to the simulator developers about what their customers are looking for in their sim.

Both sims can be excellent with the right add-ons.

More like "my two dads are better than your one dad." 😃

I don’t care about XP in the P3D forum. Always the same guys trying to hype XP here .....

Never have I posted in the XP forum about P3D...

There must be something special about P3D and the P3D forum 🧐
