Very and I mean very annoying fact

This is because XP11 is mature.  You have all the add-ons you want and your peripherals are all supported.

Idk, I just use a normal stick and throttle quadrant, which work fine in MSFS. As far as addons are concerned, I don't use much in X-Plane. Aircraft of course, but nothing scenery wise, no clouds, weather engine, no Lua scripts etc.

Guess I'm just undemanding.😀

Xp9-> xp10 had new clouds, new scenery system, new atc and ai, hdr and global lightning.

LR already talked about new weather and clouds (voxel), new lightning (photometric), and next gen scenery as the next big things after vulkan is stable..well this closes the gap IMO.

I think MSFS photoreal scenery approach does look amazing, but has many cons that can't be really improved;

-Ground textures come from bing. While bing imagery is great at some locations, it lacks in many other aspects. Baked shadows, baked clouds, baked roads and cars, baked vegetaion, lots of immresion killer stuff.

-MSFS autogen objects are made with 3d data which azure should convert to buildings etc. does it take different materials on objects into account? Reflections on buildings? No matter what ai you use an object that was premade by a good artist in pbr workflow will look miles ahead better.

X-plane ain't going anywhere, and it can easily look better than msfs in Vulkan's era.

All the youtube and twitch streams Ive seen of msfs2020 look pretty awful. Random kids colors splattered all over the screen and not just a bad flight model, but barely even something I would class as a flight simulator. google flight simulator seems to have better physics (and photogrammetry) and thats 100% free.

As much as a fan as I am of MSFS, I really appreciate the work LR put in to the default GA "Garmin-like" avionics stack. That definitely sets a good bar that the new sim should aim for. Will they hit it? Are they even trying? ...TBD

I'm not sure how to take this. I'm a huge supporter and fan of X-Plane and have used it for years and develop extensively for it, but I can't deny that MFS looks next-gen and will move the entire genre forward. You simply can't judge all these things from a Youtube video, and until you try a flight yourself, you won't know. Your opinion seems defensive rather than objective, and until you've used it yourself, you can't make that call (There are really awful videos out there of X-Plane as well). Wait two weeks, buy a 1 month subscription to gamepass, try it, and them come back and give a valid argument...

DCS already have better visuals than msfs imo.

MSFS may seem as a high bar to reach and austin may seem arrogant while he talks, though for me it seems that when he says that they did not move to vulkan (3 years of work as for now IIRCL) to have a stale looking scenery running at 100 fps he is probably aware he has better stuff yet to be unveiled.

As ben supnik said..apparently some of the new eastern european guys are eager to show what they got since MSFS announced, they know it is not less impressive, but they have to shut their mouths for now as company's priority is a *true* next gen Vulkan rendering engine, foundations first, not a claiming to be next gen engine on an old API.

Since I'm on Linux, twitch, youtube and their screenshots are all I have to go off.

And

bawl8hsip2t41.png

Doesn't encourage me in any way shape or form to give microsoft the permissions to my computer they request above.

the left hand shot is poorly shaded, cartoon coloured (pretty sure there is literally cell shading in there) horrible fov (which seems to be the default), lifeless and very very "last gen"

Not saying the right hand side is that much better, but the difference in level of detail is night and day -> and that's just the freeware of XP11; XP12 is soooon.

On that I would agree, but I can see from the youtube and twitch videos that in game is very very different to the not to shabby marketing videos they have put out, and offers absolutely nothing I don't already have besides the ability to bounce off the runway at 2000fpm and keep right on flying, which isn't something I'm looking for from my flight simming experience.

What, exactly, about msfs2020 do you think is so much better than xp11 that i should put my computer at risk of whatever the latest microsoft ransomware is that is doing the rounds?

"shiney" aint gonna cut it. and new xbox releases are pinned to xbox one perf for the next few years so I am not going to be buying that trash, not sure Ill even upgrade the PS4 any time soon, RTX3080 is coming in the next few months.

That's not up to the Avsim members here to tell you. You have to try it for yourself and not just look at YouTube videos, and then your opinions about XP vs. MSFS would carry some weight. Just trying to point out the obvious here.

To be clear, I think it's great to have a curmudgeonly antidote to all the hype about the new sim. I plan to be doing some of that myself at some point after release from the NDA. But you need an informed perspective to be relevant.

So fly the thing when it comes out. Put it on a spare computer if you have one, or try it at a friend's house. Fly it and tell us what you think. With respect, because I know you have software dev experience and are a flight sim nut like we all are here, these rants without actually flying it are just white noise.

no. I really dont. Any more than you have to try VR in XP11.50.

Don't let the fact you'll never be able to fly 2D sim again put you off.

LOL

It's hard to take anyone seriously that think XP11 looks better than MSFS under any circumstances. I love XP11 for what it does but when it comes to the scenery is MSFS, it's not even in the same league. I've tried DCS and I didn't think it look at that good. I only have the free maps.  You have to see for yourself. There is more to the game that when you have see in the official video. I am not ready to ditch my XP11 or P3D just yet for other reason but when it comes to scenery , MSFS will be king.
