Are there any Asian Scenery Footages?

Featured Replies

All I've seen are US, and Europe mostly. I've been wanting to see more of the Asian region, besides what I've seen of North Korea. Are there any of the following videos of the following places in MFS2020?

  1. Thailand
  2. Vietnam
  3. South Korea
  4. Philippines
  5. Hong Kong
  6. Taiwan
  7. Japan

I really hope these areas are at least detailed enough where we can do some GA VFR flying because in the past with previous sims, Asia was always a region that needed much attention.

Quill18 has a video out where he does user requests. Watched it a few days ago buy pretty sure one of the four towns he visits was in the Philippines, along with cities in India and Pakistan. Might be worth checking that out to get an idea of what places look like outside of the US and Europe.

FSX | DCS | X-Plane 11 | MSFS 2020 | IL2:BoX

Favorite aircraft currently: MSFS Savage Cub

I saw one in North Korea on youtube. Either ObsidianAnt or Squirrel I think.

North Korea has very bad orthos, but the above video does a good job showing what most non-mainstream locations look like. Pakistan, Philippines, and India all look pretty incredible and it's all AI and not photogrammetry.

I didn’t see the Ryugyong Hotel in the Pyongyang footage, which is probably the most iconic building in the city. I hope they add it.

A short flight over Hong Kong:

Yes , Hong Kong but...

Paddy fields on terraces under the sun, oil palm plantations, jungles in Assam and Papua, coconut trees on beaches, blooming jacarandas and flame trees, arid spaces in Tibet and NW Asia with their oases, Japanese urban sprawls at the foot of mountains and by the sea 😉 <sigh> ?

I really hope Asobo and Microsoft will pay extra attention to the Asian region. This area has been overlooked for ages now. It's about time this region gets some much needed attention and updates. If they're going to advertise the next gen flight sim as a world fully ready to explore, then this really needs to be pushed. US & Europe have been way ahead already, at least level out the playing field somewhat and make the entire world more consistent in terms of coverage.

It looks like you'll have to buy a 3rd party add on to get good airports and good scenery for the Asia region.  I suspect flight simulators are more popular in North America and EU than it is in Asia.  Having said that, that would be great if Asobo brushed up on Asia in a future patch.

Air Boyd did a fly over from Chek Lap Kok (HKG) airport to whatever is left over of the old Kai Tak airport:

Kai Tak is just a land strip now in MSFS 2020 (in real life, it's been converted to a cruise ship terminal).  The checkerboard for the approach to Kai Tak is also missing.  It looks like a 3rd party will have to model Kai Tak.and and add the checkerboard back in.  Plus, Chek Lap Kok airport needs to be handcrafted (I assume this can also be done by a 3rd party).

I wonder when people will let Kai Tak finally go. It has been closed for 22 years.

Finally a video of Japan...stunning! It’s in German btw

Is that a hand crafted airport in Japan from Asobo? And which version of the sim is it in if so. That's amazing if it is and I will be flying from that airport and around it! What airport and city?

Never mind, Tokyo. I really like the point of interest stuff!

Haneda is a hand crafted airport in all 3 versions.  I’ll be curious to see how Narita looks as well as Naha on Okinawa.  Naha just opened up a second runway in April, but I’m not sure if it will be included or not?   If it isn’t, I’d think it would be on a future update
