August 16, 20205 yr Has anyone seen any video of KDFW or the area, how did it look? John Snyder Jr John Snyder Jr
August 16, 20205 yr Dallas isn't a photogrammetry city. Fort Worth is. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
August 16, 20205 yr I don't know if there's a video of it. The general rule is if you've seen one major AI city, then that's the quality you can expect everywhere, especially somewhere with good data like Dallas. In other words, the AI doesn't discriminate. If you like how the videos of other non-photogrammetry cities look, expect Dallas to be on par. KDFW is a default, not hand-crafted airport. Edited August 16, 20205 yr by bonchie
August 16, 20205 yr I find it odd that KDFW and Atlanta Hartsfield are not hand-crafted, since these are two of the busiest airports in the country. I'm also surprised that the city of Washington, DC, doesn't look anywhere nearly as detailed as, say, Cincinnati or Columbus or Nashville or a hundreds other cities. I suspect there'll be a lot of good stuff to download from the Marketplace on Day One. Some of the top add on developers needed some room to breath with their coming projects and they left those areas open. In the end, the sustainability of MSFS is going to come from add-on sales and MS taking a cut of that. But there's also the fact that the sim is much more globally focused now, so instead of getting 20 of the 40 hand-crafted airports in the U.S., it's a lot more places throughout the world. August 16, 20205 yr Yes like ASIA can use some much needed attention from 3PD for starters! I imagine this to be the case. I can also see Asobo including DFW and Atlanta Hartsfield as free (fingers crossed) DLC when they do a world update that would include North America. Dallas has a beautiful skyline in real life and in P3D. Lots of interesting buildings. One building has a "keyhole" to fly through. 😄 Reunion Tower is great. MSFS Dallas is a bunch of generic buildings. On the other hand, once you get away from the downtown area, you can recognize individual buildings. "Oh look, there's the hospital." I haven't found the building on highway 75 with the big sign "Cat Hospital" yet, but wasn't looking for it at the time. Heh! "Cat Hospital". 😄 <cue crude joke> I laugh every time I see it. I guess for a Brit they'd ask to see the Kitty Litter instead. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

I live right across from 13L at KDAL on the 5th floor overlooking the runway and Business Jet Center. I’m curious to see how it looks even though there’s no programmetry for this area. Would you say that the Dallas downtown area is actually worse than it is in FSX or P3D since it doesn’t have custom buildings? How about KDAL or KDFW, better or worse than the default FSX/P3D versions? Hopefully you can post some shots of the area once it goes live in a few days. I would just buy and check myself but I’m on an older Win7 system, so I’ll need a whole new rig before I can jump in. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

I'd say that downtown Dallas is absolutely gorgeous in FSX and P3D, and is totally generic in MSFS... and if I remember right all the buildings are the same color. There is one that is oval. They are all of different heights... possibly the only thing they got right, but nothing I can recognize and I don't guarantee any of the heights are accurate. I'm don't think there's a tall building where Reunion Tower is, although there are some at the base. And all this I discovered on my very first flight. 😄 I didn't examine DAL or DFW closely, just noticed there were airports in the right place. I may have seen ADS as I passed by. I did overfly McKinney and it looked good, but most airports look good in MSFS. Better than P3D. If someone makes a payware downtown Dallas, I'll buy it. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! August 16, 20205 yr As another DFW'r here (8.5 miles from both DFW and DAL in Carrollton)...I too am looking forward to see what 3rd party devs bring to the plate (and hopefully MS and Asobo do in updates). Kinda' wish I took up scenery design vs aircraft painting....We're a dime a dozen and it looks as though even with the stunning scenery we've seen thus far...there will be plenty of business for 3rd parties to refine the world even further. Bonham aka Hook I’ll be interested to see McKinney, Sherman, Paris, Denton and other places in the outskirts to see how they match up. I’m sure after release I’ll be able to see plenty of screen shots and videos of Texas. I’m a bit disappointed that Houston got the treatment and Dallas didn’t .
