Please, for the love of god, do not try to run this sim using default settings! Aviation simulation is not a game - setup and tweaking is serious business.

This is the guide that I used to set up MSFS.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND DO NOT SKIP ANY STEPS!!!

https://www.simforums.com/forums/the-fsx-computer-system-the-bible-by-nickn_topic46211.html

YOU SKIPPED SOME OF THE STEPS, DIDN’T YOU?? NOW YOU WILL NEED TO GO BACK TO THE START AND BEGIN AGAIN.

This link covers the basic initial setup and tweaking, which should only take a number of hours. After this, you will be ready to test-boot the sim and try out the menus.

As my next post, I will cover mid-level tweaking, which you should complete before embarking on your first MSFS flight.

Good luck!

Good lord.. You're linking to a 2013 FSX word salad for a simulator built in 2020..

Back in the day Oz, that was a bl@@dy good guide and I built my last Flight PC around his exact words.

But really, Affinity Mask - NOooooooooooooooooo!

I think it might be a noob who's got his Google Searches mixed up.

Next up; someone's going to report that every time you change a setting the Texture_Max_Load resets to 1024.

And don't forget these for MSFS;

WideScreenAspect=True

HighMemFix=1

Guys you're killing me to the point I am going to go search for the MSFS 2020 config file 🤣

I'm waiting for someone to suggest Steve's DX10 Fixer.

(Which of course, back in the day was brilliant)

Hey @fmloyola don't be  p*ssed off by the raucous welcome to your post, you've have just fallen into a nest of tough cookies who sim since the dawn of times and who can't agree on much but one thing : we don't want to hear from tweaking the darn sim ever again.

Hi all,

People are getting fps boosted with this tweak. Add the line "AffinityMask=n" in the config file,with "n" calculated with tool below:

http://www.gfsg.co.uk/affinitymask.aspx?SubMenuItem=utilties

Didn't tried yet. Seens it optimizes cores and threads utilization.

Hi fmloyola,

Thanks for that advice. You're obviously taking the initiative and having a good look around on the Internet for guides to increase your performance of MSFS.

That's all good but a word of caution. Microsoft Flight Simulator is a very old platform that has only very recently been massively updated. That means that the new sim from Microsoft will not necessarily be augmented or improved by some of the old Tips & Tricks that we used to apply on the older versions of this veritable gaming platform.

The short order is; don't make any radical changes to your settings. Load it, fly it, see how it feels. The new sim is in it's infancy and certainly don't tinker too hard below the hood just yet.

That particular "Tweak" you suggested was for the older Flight Simulator (When the old MSFS code didn't utilise all cores of a multi-core CPU) and we have no evidence that it will work in the new one - or even have a negative effect.

Welcome to Avsim - we're all really in to it here. But stay your hand at tweaking. Live with it for a while - learn it.

We'll get there - with what needs to be done to Turbo-Charge in to what its potential suggests is possible.

Fly Safe! and fly with good FPS.

Will
