I don't know Tony... He may be right.

In this moment, he could announce anything but it would he overshadowed by the MFS hysteria.

Months from now, waters may be calmer. Flaws or imperfections may have become more concrete for abitual MFS users, and they might be more willing to try also other simulators.

I can imagine that right now, 3rd party developers of XP may have a legitimate worry. But maybe right now there's little that LR can do.

A behemoth has unleashed all of his power, with the precise intent (disclaimer: this is my personal "hunch", suggested by hints here and there) to tackle XP head on, kill it and gain market monopoly. Absolutely legitimate of course, but nevertheless, I think it would be better for anyone to not have a total monopoly!

We'll see... Certainly there's a lot to do for LR.

But it's also important to look what's really under the shiny surface: I had the opportunity to read about the touted new flight model and how it works... Well I won't comment it here... 😬

EDIT: although it must be said that they had a few clever ideas that Austin could take inspiration from, with regard to flight model tuning.

Here what Austin thinks of MSFS TBM! lol........

"OMG hilarious you would mention that particular ACF. I was playing with that ACF at Mike Browns office the other day and it is AWESOME. It is JUST like operating a real PT6. It is AMAZING. (Then Mike tried the TBM in MSFS2020... he just firewalled the throttle with no repercussions and the plane just leapt into the air, straight as an arrow, no rudder needed... the MSFS2020 TBM was just garbage to fly. If you want a plane that flies like a plane, there is no question at all the hot-start TBM is basically identical to reality, and the MSFS version is like playing MarioKart where someone put a TBM graphic in place of the cart graphic)."

Well, I wouldn't exactly call Austin a marketing genius, but he's smart enough to know that it might be a good idea to let the excitement over MSFS die down a little, before spilling the beans. 😀

And it has to be more than talk at this point. He's talked about better ATC and other things for years without delivering. There has to be something solid shown as a screenshot or video clip, and they may just not be ready yet.

It is so easy to ignore all of the things XP11 does wrong and just focus on default aircraft and compare it to 3rd party aircraft.. Good Job Austin Meyers

I am sure we will see some screen shots and maybe a dev blog on some tech by the end of the year. Maybe RC announcement at Flightsimexpo 2021

The whole video is about X-Planes new weather, and Austin's comment about a comparison between aircraft is what you took away from it?

Unbelievable.

I mean, is he right?

Do you think this thread is out of line?

Or how about this post?

I have a none towered airport and GA planes are taking off, so something changed never happened before, though not sure ive seeing any land. Commercial jets dont though.

Well guys, since I started the thread, I would just like to add to it that I am as happy as I could be regarding this short MFS adventure since, on the very same day I asked for it, a Steam refund was received !

With that money I am going to invest in something really worth for XP11, either the hot-start TBM or something more like a commuter I had long been considering for XP 11...

Wheeee... what a relief !

Yep, very good point. Most things announced would be completely overshadowed by the current "hysteria". Indeed, with most new products announced lately (for any sim), a lot of the comments have been fairly toxic.

I think the key difference here is that other developers (i.e. Ben) at LR have also mentioned it in passing during interviews, and it's a bit more serious this time. If they don't, I can't imagine their loyal customers will be as forgiving.

Thats kinda hilarious because isn´t this exactly what has happened on the MSFS forums for the last 6 days? 😂

The thing I love best is when some innocent user starts a post like: "Hey guys, I would like to watch my landings in replay but can´t find the option, can anyone point me in the right direction?"

....crickets....

Or this one:

https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/582058-taxi-landing-lights-display-bug/

...silence...

But post something like "OMG, I just flew over my house! Its freakin awesome!!" then you get the thread piling up faster than the Zombies run in WorldWarZ againt the Jerusalem wall. "Yeah, it´s awesome, take that X-Plane!"

Double standards if I ever saw them.

Graphics wise it's a great sim platform, no doubt about it. My fellow PSX users already got some disappointment regarding there being no way to hand the flight dynamics to an external module in the same way it is possible for instance with P3D and XP for external visuals in PSX, but if in the future it turns out to be possible to use it for visuals, then just for that it is more than worth the investment - although you should consider a PC upgrade if you use an old rig like mine...

I think X-Plane's flight dynamics cannot be rated inferior to MFS's one though. Of course same easily applies to other flight simulation platforms like DCS and IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad, which also incorporate great flight and systems modeling.

It's way too early to do any flight model comparisons, because we don't know the full potential of the new MSFS yet. The default planes don't "fly the numbers" for the real thing and the systems are very basic, so Asobo didn't make a huge effort there. We'll have to wait for 3rd party devs to release better models before comparing to XP.

The internal MSFS flight model may need extending too. I was shocked to see that the default biplane apparently uses only a single wing in the internal flight model. Maybe it's still possible to replicate real world performance with a lookup table based on that modeling, but it's counter-intuitive when you're used to the way X-Plane does things. I can't imagine that working for helicopters, but maybe the whole thing is based on allowing 3rd party modules to plug into the base flight model.

Anyway, I'm not making any judgments on flight model vs. XP until 3rd party aircraft start arriving in MSFS.
