August 23, 20205 yr this thing is incredible with terrain mesh. I mean after this I understand why I never tried to do VFR in P3D. Even with the best terrain mesh addon the world in P3D looks flat compared to this. Flying around my home town even though the photo is a bit outdated and low resolution, going close to the ground i could tell even the minor changes in elevation. Makes the VFR much more realistic and fun. I only recommend to try and have higher resolution photos and more accurate trees and this thing as far as scenery will be unbeatable. August 23, 20205 yr Yesterday I was flying from "CA97", Christy Airstrip (very fun landing approach BTW), Santa Cruz island in USA west coast. Pick a GA ACFT. Observe the terrain of this island! And there are many more like that worldwide. Edited August 23, 20205 yr by Emerson67
August 23, 20205 yr Author Its truly an amazing looking sim. To add to this, shortly after I wrote this the live weather was working properly (as far as clouds and the accuracy that was outside my window) I saw rainbow for first time its indeed incredible sight that the videos before dont deliver till you see it yourself. I really think that in the not far future this will be the sim to go for both VFR and high airliners flying. MSFS2020, 24, Fenix A320, Ryzen 9 9950X3D, ASUS TUF RTX 5090 ,G.SKILL 64GB 6000MHz CL28
August 23, 20205 yr Terrain mesh might be fine for mounds, undulations and hills but it needs some serious upgrading for anything higher. I'm not sure what the pressent terrain DEM is though. This will probably be added in progressively along with better tiles (color correction comes to mind). It will be fun to follow the progression. As the saying goes. "they're working on it".
August 23, 20205 yr Wait, wut? The terrain mesh in MSFS is pretty dodgy, and not up to 2020 standards at all: Greenland is even worse. Fly there and check out those crazy plateaus! P3D v5 has MUCH better mesh (heavily updated from v4, but even the old P3D versions are much better in this regard than MSFS). If you want to pick something that MSFS does better than P3D, terrain mesh would be one of the last things you'd choose! EDIT: I note thatthe thread in this forum five below this one is about MSFS mesh problems!!! If the terrrain mesh is one thing, then it is definately not good. Especially your statement that P3D looks flat with the best terrain mesh addon is just a load of rubbish. August 23, 20205 yr Look there are places that the mesh is fine others not so much. It needs correction. This thing just got OUT OF THE OVEN .give it some time and stop trashing peoples enjoyment. I agree with the OP when it does look good it’s incredible. . it didn’t took long for someone to try and kick down a positive thread down the hole . Image removed as image is no longer available.

The original poster is wrong about the mesh, it is definitely not what makes this sim shine, it's one of its drawbacks. I'm sure they'll add better elevation data when the time comes.

MSFS has it's good points, but when someone makes exaggerated claims about it, then that should be pointed out. It has nothing to do with it being a new sim. Others were simply pointing out why those claims about wonderful mesh were not really justified. John B
August 23, 20205 yr Author I dont want to get into an argument about it or go to some places where you found glitches and tell you "yes you were right the mesh is s###". All I said in the original post is that in the area where I live I never saw this level of terrain accuracy as I see in MSFS. And I've been using 2 different payware mesh addons and 1 freeware. Now, do you want me to give coordinates to go and compare? MSFS2020, 24, Fenix A320, Ryzen 9 9950X3D, ASUS TUF RTX 5090 ,G.SKILL 64GB 6000MHz CL28

I also noticed that the mesh in MSFS is weak in that particular area. This is especially interesting as one of the loading screens in MSFS (and we spend a lot of time looking at loading screens in MSFS...) suggests flying to Chamonix to look at Mont Blanc.

Almost every flight simmer was there, which is why it had to be held in the New Century Global Centre, in Chengdu, what with it being the largest building in the world and all of us being two metres apart from one another. We all voted on it, and then we had tea and cakes. It was lovely. But I made sure I left early, because I didn't want to have to help clean up the mesh. August 31, 20205 yr Around the UK and Europe in general I've found the mesh to be pretty good, only other place I have flown is Alaska - where, unfortunately it isn't.... Then again many airports missing there, as well so guessing Bing isn't that hot up there... Gary Davies aka "Gazzareth" Simming since 747 on the Acorn Electron
August 31, 20205 yr Does this mean that one day we will have an FS Global addon for MSFS? Theres also the great looking Freemesh for FSX , I wonder how much tweaking they will both need to be applied to MSFS.
