New "stutter fix" circulating.

Featured Replies

The best way to get rid of stutters is to blink 20 times per second.
It takes a little effort at first, then you get used to it.

I can confirm this fix did work for me.  I was about to give up on 4 core cpu altogether.  Although, this stuttering and pausing wasn't an issue for me during Beta, but I did get the very annoying Internet Connection Lost errors repeatedly whilst flying in southeast US where the photogrammetry is not so good.  Thanks for the tip!

It's by all means a hotfix that shouldn't last long before being fixed by Asobo.

From what I read, any further cores (more than 4) are pretty useless in the sim at the moment, not creating any gains. So I'd suggest it's the opposite, 4 is the sweet spot for the time being, and a very nice "second wind" for the old 4 cored, such as the 4790K.

That's disabled by default over here.

It looked the same for me = unchecked, but I checked it and it fixed my issue.  It's not so clear to be honest.  All I can tell you is, is mine has a check mark by it now and before it didn't.  Thanks!

Then it’s time for Asobo to make it possible to use more than 4 cores ( looking at myself with my 14 core 7940X )...

Are you changing this in the current or the always tab? At current, it does not stay changed even within one session of the sim.

Hmm, I tested process lasso as suggested, but it made no difference whatsoever.

Carlosx (anyone else) if you have studders do me a favor, goto the "Control Panel" -Programs -Uninstall a program - and look for Microsoft Flight Simulator SimConnect Client and what is the highest version you have.

I have an older 4 core i5 and for me the LOD settings make a HUGE difference.  If I set LOD to 10 (absolute minimum), my CPU usage sits around 60 to 70%.  Putting them up to 25 gets CPU up to nearly 100%.  Setting the FPS limiter for me to 60FPS also seems to make a difference.

I have found for me, that LOD sliders affect my performance the most as I am definitely CPU dependent at this point.  I knew my system was just above minimum specs, so I haven't tried to go too banana sandwich on graphics.  I'm not trying to push my system at Ultra 4K.  I'm at 1080p with the overall global setting set to Medium.  I then raise my cloud quality to high, and set the LOD's down to 25 from 50.  Currently this is my sweet spot for now.

It's not perfect, but I can shoot most of my approaches with little or no issues.

Ironically my FSX Steam Edition runs like a greased pig on my system.  Buttery.  I just can't handle the out of the window view anymore.  Generic Land Class textures, hand drawn roads and generic buildings holds no candle to being able to navigate precisely to my house using nothing but roads.   Amazing.

Hopefully when DX12 makes its way into MFS, we will see the CPU/GPU and system resources being used much more efficiently.

I'm sorry, but what is the setting you name LOD please ?

Thanks

What stutters?

The ones that are very hard to see through rose-colored glasses. 😈

Sorry.  Old school. LOD Level of Detail.  (Too much time working with FS:COF and FSX mesh....Oh, good times)

There are two.  Terrain Level of Detail and Objects Level of Detail.  Terrain is for the scenery mesh, the one for objects is kind of self explanatory.

These settings set the "radius" around your aircraft where the simulation draws the more detailed areas of scenery.  The lower the setting, the closer to your plane they are rendered and thus your CPU does less work.  The higher the number, the larger the radius and thus more rendering.  Since this setting appears to be a radius (based on how it used to work on earlier versions), the higher you go the amount of rendering you have to do is exponentially larger.  (area of a circle, pi are squared, and the like).

I imagine this setting also affects your bandwidth usage, as I imagine that LOD levels are loaded from the cloud based on this setting.  Imagine you plane as a marker as you fly over an area.  With low LOD, the area of medium and high resolution mesh and objects will be relatively narrow.  Kind of like a Sharpie.   But with medium LOD settings (mid way), then that might be more like a Felt Tip marker, and with it maxed out, it's like a paint roller.

With a higher setting, you can go to a higher altitude and see higher quality mesh and objects further from your plane, but at the cost of CPU, since the CPU has to do the calculations for placing the objects and the mesh.

Initially I had 8GB of RAM.  16GB made a big difference for me as well.  I've since installed another 16GB, and I have seen FS2020 use some of it, so I can't say it's been a useless investment.  RAM is cheap.

It's a flight simulator, not a Terminator.

Wellllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.....technically.....it is an app where the SKY is the median in which we sim....and with the streaming scenery, we typically play it connected to the NET......you see where I'm going here? 🤣
