OrbX freeware airport pack released for P3Dv5

Recommended Posts

It's available in direct.  I haven't had time to see how many airports or compare to v4, just an FYI.

You will be just fine if you don't have it. But is there actually still someone out there who doesn't use Global?

Installed, tried a couple of the airports and had some elevation issues.  There are no elevation correction files to disable the default airport elevations. Will do what I did the last time in FSX.  Installed it, copied the folder to a different location, uninstalled. Moved the individual airports as needed into the sim and modified the elevation with ADE to create a elevation correction file as needed for the airports in question.

The Orbx advice is to move the airport-addons higher in the scenery library since v5 does not have a Orbx Vector tool. If that doesnt solve the problem then its most likely a design issue with the airport itself.

I haven't installed it yet but V5 now has a dedicated version of Vector.

We will be making this pack available for P3Dv5 as is and without updates to the existing pack. One of our thoughts is invite the community that are familiar with ADE to update any issues that are seen in P3Dv5.

One the original contributors, lifejogger (John Barner), is adding some African airports to this pack so we hope to have a smallish update soon.

Orbx has also opened a tread so we can upload ADE fixes for the default scenery bleeding through.

Being that this has always been a freeware pack, inviting the community to help fix it for P3Dv5 sounds reasonable to me.

It looks like nothing has changed from the previous versions for FSX and P3DV4.x.  I did a quick web search and found this: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1PE1hbOnyNuZ5ynpoNmYsEPDi6Ao&ll=13.937224891020767%2C-109.99093700000003&z=2

It looks like they did not change any ICAO codes, V5 has updated a lot of airports with the latest ICAO code, so there could be duplicate airports with different ICAO codes.  There are also no elevation corrections.

According to another reply in this post, ORBX wants users to use ADE and submit updates.

I buffed-up a couple of the ORBX freeware airports for P3Dv5 (Augusta ME-KAUG and Belfast ME-KBST) and there were scenery objects used in both that came from a stock OBX file in the P3Dv4 scenery structure.  Those scenery objects either had been assigned a new GUID or had been removed altogether from the scenery object file(s) in P3Dv5.  It was easy enough (but tedious) to find the scenery objects and place a copy of the relevant v4 OBX file into the P3Dv5 scenery.  If this is a common thing, it's gonna take a lot of work.  That, and anyone that does not have FSX and/or P3Dv4 installed won't have the necessary scenery object files available for transplantation.

So...just be aware, YMMV when using airports contained in this direct portover.
