The 3070 would seem a sweet spot for now if upgrading from a 1080 or lower. For me that equates to around a 50 percent boost ... plus G sync (with an OLED TV that needs RTX)... with just 2x8 pin connectors and a 650 W. So just the 450 quid ... maybe less 175 if I flog the 1080 ! A 3080 would require another 80 to 100 quid for a better PSU...effectively 750 quid. YMMV ! The 3070's won't have enough VRAM to be future proof for this sim I'm afraid! Doesn't the 3070 only have 11GB... which is the same as an old 1080ti...? I would only spend the money on a 30XX card if it had at least 16 GB of VRAM! Edited September 5, 20205 yr by Kilo60 Chris Camp

I'll upgrade my 1080 to a 3080, hopefully near the $700 price point. And in 2 years, the future 4080 will out perform the current $1,500 3090, at a lower price point just like we're seeing.... 🙂 MSI MAG Z790 Carbon, i9-13900k, NH-D15 cooler, 64 GB CL40 6000mhz RAM, MSI RTX4090, Yamaha 5.1 A/V Receiver, 4x 2TB Samsung 980 Pro NVMe, 1x 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD, Win 11 Pro, TM Warthog, Virpil WarBRD, MFG Crosswinds, 43" Samsung 4K TV, 21.5 Acer VT touchscreen, TrackIR, Varjo Aero, Wheel Stand Pro Super Warthog, Phanteks Enthoo Pro2 Full Tower Case, Seasonic GX-1200 ATX3 PSU, PointCTRL, Buttkicker 2, K-51 Helicopter Collective Control

Also it depends on what AMD is doing then. We don't know yet why Nvidia did not increase the prices, maybe it's because Big Navi might steal them the show. I would rather buy a 3090 and skip the next generation. Or wait for the 3080Ti with 16GB VRAM.

But nonetheless, the economy and competitors play a crucial part. Indeed! Also it depends on what AMD is doing then One can only hope that competition takes charge, indeed! Gawd I hope AMD stirs things up, and drives down the price! I would rather buy a 3090 and skip the next generation Nope, makes no sense for me. I've been out of the mindless year 2 year upgrades. Going from a 1080 to the 3080 should be a nice step for me. And if the the 4080 comes out with a performance bang, all the better! Screw the 3090, I'll go with the 4080 in the future and still save money after buying a 3080 + 4080 vs. now $$ 3090 (from a cost/performance perspective)... 🙂 MSI MAG Z790 Carbon, i9-13900k, NH-D15 cooler, 64 GB CL40 6000mhz RAM, MSI RTX4090, Yamaha 5.1 A/V Receiver, 4x 2TB Samsung 980 Pro NVMe, 1x 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD, Win 11 Pro, TM Warthog, Virpil WarBRD, MFG Crosswinds, 43" Samsung 4K TV, 21.5 Acer VT touchscreen, TrackIR, Varjo Aero, Wheel Stand Pro Super Warthog, Phanteks Enthoo Pro2 Full Tower Case, Seasonic GX-1200 ATX3 PSU, PointCTRL, Buttkicker 2, K-51 Helicopter Collective Control
September 5, 20205 yr Thats not what I said: You can buy a 3090 now, and skip the next gen and wait for 5080 Super. I will be upgrading my PC from a 8 years old 650TI! And that's what I am planning to do: buy 3090 and use it for at least 5 years. Then I can chill and wait for the 6080 SUPER and upgrade for another 1000-1200 bucks. Though it's too far in the future, nobody knows what will happen until then.
September 5, 20205 yr going from a 650ti to a 3090, woot! Indeed, a very nice step up. I'm planning a shorter life cycle refresh. From the 1080 to 3080. But nonetheless, an incredible, multi-generational upgrade for you my man! I am getting impatient, have been waiting now for more than 2 months for my upgrade but the few more weeks should not matter. Why don't you wait for the 3080ti/super? It's will probably have 16GB and shuold be too long for release. You will be more flexible with that. You could then upgrade from super to super generation. 1080 should be fine to bypass until release. It's your decision, but I that's what I would do.

The 3070 will have 8 GB of VRAM. But it MAY be faster. Up to 40 percent faster. That would be the equivalent of 11 GB. Some 30 series have the DDR6 X VRAM.

My 2080 goes into my media PC, the 1080 into my Flightsim client PC. Rotate like dish cloths ! I reckon once the 3070 is out at 475 GBP, I'd get £150 for my second hand 1080 ! May be a good time to pick up a cheap 2080 though ! And the Radeons will be all but worthless. Their flagship is below a 2080.
