Do 4K users need NVIDIA 3080 ???

<sigh> I'll just have to be content with my new rig's GTX 2080 Super. My older sim computer's GTX 1080Ti (11GB) just wasn't cutting it.

OTOH, the "old" sim computer runs Max, Photoshop and all of my other programs splendidly!

Just to throw a spanner in the works for anyone contemplating a GPU upgrade...
https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/a-geforce-rtx-3070-ti-with-16gb-gddr6-is-listed-at-lenovo.html

Who knows if this is true or not, but I'm certainly going to wait for a 30x0 Ti.
With 'only' 10GB of VRAM on the vanilla 3080, it isn't enough for me.

AMD Ryzen 5800X3D; MSI RTX 3080 Ti ; 32GB Corsair 3200 MHz; ASUS VG35VQ 35" (3440 x 1440)
Fulcrum One yoke; Thrustmaster TCA Captain Pack Airbus edition; MFG Crosswind rudder pedals; miniCockpit FCU; CPFlight MCP 737; Logitech FIP x3; TrackIR

MSFS; Fenix A320; A2A PA-24; HPG H145; PMDG 737-600; AIG; RealTraffic; PSXTraffic; FSiPanel; REX AccuSeason Adv; FSDT GSX Pro; FS2Crew RAAS Pro; FS-ATC Chatter

That was then, this is now.  When I run MSFS with Windows Game Bar open, I find that it's using up 90%+ of my GPU's capacity, but well under 50% of my relatively ancient CPU.  Now, granted, it may be because the sim isn't yet fully optimized, but it really appears that the latest iteration of MSFS seems to have reversed the old paradigm of taxing the CPU more than the GPU.

Taxing RAM more than anything, followed by GPU, then CPU.  Much the opposite of older FS versions...

We will have a 20 gb 3080 in October 🙂

if you update the GPU you probably need to update also the CPU etc. to not have other bottlenecks.

I've read talk of very limited stocks in 3000 series cards until end of year at the earliest.

Hope that's not true.

I'll be paying for the ASUS ROG TUF 3090 at 2pm on SEP 24....This card is only 29.7CM long as oppose to the NVIDIA and others length of 31.3cm. That extra 1.6 CM will ensure it fits in my case!

Can't seem to find the dimensions for it....I am measuring my case again to see what I can do. Don't fancy changing it when its all setup for water-cooling. I can easily swap the PSU out for another one.

my new 850watt PSu (replacing 650) arrived today - so all good to go now.

I'm hoping I can still use my Vertical bracket for the new card.

any idea on price for the ASUS cards?

Absolutely correct. This needs pushed more. Especially to the 1/2 refresh rate, 30 VSYNC etc etc crowd....

A modern day GPU (such as the 2080 series or now the 30 series) with G-sync = Brilliance.

....which includes me at the moment !

Hopefully by Xmas I'll be rockin a 3070 Ti, and a G sync OLED.

Sick and tired of faffing around.

But the new RAM in the 3080 and up is DDR6 X ....  50 percent faster than the RAM on the 20 series.

So 10 GB on the 3080 is equivalent to 15GB of 2080 VRAM.

... give or take... allegedly 🥴🥴🥴

16Gb 3070Ti's, and 20GB 3080 (Ti) just down the road then.......
