September 2, 20205 yr Moderator <sigh> I'll just have to be content with my new rig's GTX 2080 Super. My older sim computer's GTX 1080Ti (11GB) just wasn't cutting it. OTOH, the "old" sim computer runs Max, Photoshop and all of my other programs splendidly! Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
September 3, 20205 yr Just to throw a spanner in the works for anyone contemplating a GPU upgrade...https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/a-geforce-rtx-3070-ti-with-16gb-gddr6-is-listed-at-lenovo.html Who knows if this is true or not, but I'm certainly going to wait for a 30x0 Ti. With 'only' 10GB of VRAM on the vanilla 3080, it isn't enough for me. When I run MSFS with Windows Game Bar open, I find that it's using up 90%+ of my GPU's capacity, but well under 50% of my relatively ancient CPU. Now, granted, it may be because the sim isn't yet fully optimized, but it really appears that the latest iteration of MSFS seems to have reversed the old paradigm of taxing the CPU more than the GPU. Taxing RAM more than anything, followed by GPU, then CPU. Much the opposite of older FS versions... SAR Pilot. Flight Sim'ing since the beginning.

September 3, 20205 yr if you update the GPU you probably need to update also the CPU etc. to not have other bottlenecks.

I'll be paying for the ASUS ROG TUF 3090 at 2pm on SEP 24....This card is only 29.7CM long as oppose to the NVIDIA and others length of 31.3cm. That extra 1.6 CM will ensure it fits in my case!
September 3, 20205 yr Preliminary testing they are seeing 80-90% performance increases with the RTX3080 over the RTX2080.. not bad at all. No doubt MSFS will find a way to kill all these power improvements 😁 https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2020-hands-on-with-nvidia-rtx-3080 Edited September 3, 20205 yr by AllRed

Sick and tired of faffing around.
