I have a 1,000 watt power supply.--->Dell XPS 730x) ..with six 6-pin connectors...so no problem...will use the 6 pin to 8 pin adapters...that can be had for $10.00 for two.  Done...  Also, the 3090 is 12.5 inches long....I have 2 inches to spare from back of fan bodies to the motherboard lock in point. So good there...3090, bring 'em on...:)

"The Dell 1000 Watt PSU is an oversized (taller and wider) than standard ATX Power supply units, although it does use the standard ATX bolt pattern to secure it to the chassis. The PSU also has a detachable wiring harness allowing for removal of the PSU for replacement without having to disconnect all powered accessories. This power supply is the same supply used in the Dell Precision T7400 and T7500 series workstations."

Another reason to skip the 3070 completely!!!!

But the 3070 is cheap. And won't need a PSU upgrade for most. 225W via a 650 W psu. And only 2x8 pin connectors.

And, a 3080 will prolly be CPU limited it's so ridiculously fast. Especially on Sims restricted to 4 cores.

So it's really not that simple a choice.

All the tech sites say the same: the 3070 is being lauded as the "best card" bang for buck ever... And: the sweet spot...as currently the others are prolly overkill unless you are running multiple monitors.

But time will tell. They're not even out yet

Probably be why the 3090 won’t be utilised fully in msfs. Still going to get one though 🙂

Exactly. Grandfather, Father Son system.

My 2080 goes into my media PC, the 1080 into my Flightsim client PC.

Rotate like dish cloths !

I reckon once the 3070 is out at 475 GBP, I'd get £150 for my second hand 1080 !

May be a good time to pick up a cheap 2080 though !

And the Radeons will be all but worthless. Their flagship is below a 2080.

Exactly what I do.  I rotate and cascade the card from my current sim/game rig into the other systems.  Or give it my son.

My secondary system I have the previous GTX970 with the old Oculus CV1 on it, (and SSD's).  The grandkids love coming over and playing some of the VR games on it.

For my primary, I have the 1080 and Oculus R (and multiple NVMe's).  I'm really looking forward to make another leap with the RTX 30xx....  :-)   I'll then put the 1080 into the secondary, and shift the Oculus R over to it.  Since I have the HP Reverb G2 on order....

exactly.  If I'm going to pull the trigger on day one, it'll be the 3080.  faster RAM, and less the extortion price of the 3090..  🙂

Yep...and for this kind of money...I'm into future proofing for the next 7-10 years.   My present GTX1070 speaks to that!  24 GB's of lightning fast RAM, will proof me for DX12 across anything.  DX12/13/14 will use every bit of Vid RAM it finds in your system...and that...is coming.

I plan on buying a 3090 as soon as they are available,  I'd prefer a water-cooled model (because of the typically higher sustained clock speeds and less noise).    There are two reasons I want a 3090,   1)I game at 4k and I'll gladly accept every frame I can get my hands on,   and 2) I want the HDMI bandwidth capabilities of the next gen cards.

RIght now I'm running a 2080ti,  the HDMI output of the current gen AMD and nVidia cards don't support 10 bit HDR with 4.4.4 chroma @ 4k-120hz.    I'm using a 48" LG CX which has G-Sync and Free-Sync,   and it supports 10 bit HDR with 4.4.4 chroma @ 4k-120hz.

Not that sims require stratospheric frame rates,   but I like to fly the Extra and I want all the buttery smooth frames I can find.

Looks like the new gen will be a great thing for pc gaming overall,  because the new cards have great performance and even right now people are scoring used 2080 ti's for around $500 usd on Ebay right now.   I expect the Steam hardware survey to take a nice upward bump in the aggregate.

This may be a useful video to watch. Especially when he talks about the availability of cards. Some of you may be very disappointed or at least frustrated by the wait.

Any one else think these will all be bought up and then resold for 2x the cost?

Well, isn't that what Ebay is for? Sure seems like it.

If that’s anything like the youtubers who advised it would be an 80GB download for the MSFS update patch, I’ll pass...

Don't forget you also need 3 empty PCI slots in a row on the back of your case or it won't fit!!!

This channel is extremely unreliable, pretty much all of the Zen 3 and Ampere leaks he presented turned out to be wrong. I wouldn't give his videos much, if any weight.

When watching the video, I never felt all that convinced by what he was saying.

I have no bets in this race, so you might be right. But he's not the only one to report the rumours that numbers of cards will be low, especially the 3090.

Personally, I'm waiting until the new year until supply and drivers are sorted out, tests and reviews done (especially wrt MFS), patches for the sim have come out, and hopefully the new AMD CPUs and graphics cards have been released. In a situation like this where a number of new things are being released at about the same time, once the dust settles will be the best time to upgrade in my book.
