Now I'm starting to calculate ... one beer less per week is probably not enough maybe two ... 😉 ...

Im thinking the same, plus if I start offering my wife out to the highest bidder I should have one by around 2023.

SLI is officially dead and 3090 does not have support for SLI either.

I make YouTube videos so the second one is for my editing PC .

I'm skeptical that a 3080 is going to too much. MSFS has always been CPU intensive.  I have a 2070 super running ultra 2560 X 1080.  If the traffic is low then I see "Limited by GPU" every once in a while.  If the traffic is up "Limited by Main Thread" is prominently displayed on a regular basis.  Until I see bench marks the 2070 super will have to do.

But... digital foundry found the 3080 runs games like METRO, Control, and Battlefield 5 flawlessly at 4K 60 fps that brought the 2080ti to its knees.  DF found that the 3080 was 68-92% faster than the 2080ti.  That is significant.

However, I think MSFS is more CPU dependent than developers are letting on.  I have noticed FPS from GTX1060 to RTX2080ti didn't scale when it came to MSFS as it did with console games.  Digital Foundry did a fantastic video on that about a month ago.

That's my feeling as well. My non-overclocked 3900x with a 1070Ti runs the sim surprisingly well at 1440p. Even with the big airliners, I hardly get below 30 FPS.

Yeah that's why I have ben saying wait for benchmarks in theory it should be a fantastic upgrade but in practical experience who knows what we will see.  One thing I havve found is running an FPS monitor may be more useful if you have it showing CPU cores and GPU usage.  I find my CPU is not maxed out but my GPU seems to be the limiting factor so thats why I am concentrating ona  GPU upgrade.  But I also play other games besides MSFS so I will take across the board performance gains even if MSFS improvements are more limited.  And other have pointed out DX12 can change a lot of this in a lot of ways.

If the rumors are true and there is a 3070Ti coming, then most will go for that or the 3090 me thinks. The 3080 will be like the A330-800.

I’ve got limited by gpu at 3840x1600. 2080ti. Hoping the 3090 allows breathing room. But like we say, who knows if it is stuck being cpu bound. Man I wish they had just released it as DX12. It seems outdated all ready in that sense...!

It depends on what resolution you intend to run the sim, 4K go for 3090, otherwise 3080.

really? wanted 4k HDR for sure. Looks like it will cost me $$$ bigtime 😞

SAR Pilot. Flight Sim'ing since the beginning.

a RTX 3080 will be bottleneck by your CPU. even in 4k.

I really think that the 3080 will be sufficient. That is what I'll be going for. Now if you have $1500 to spend and money is not an issue for you, then sure the 3090 sounds perfect.

That was then, this is now.  When I run MSFS with Windows Game Bar open, I find that it's using up 90%+ of my GPU's capacity, but well under 50% of my relatively ancient CPU.  Now, granted, it may be because the sim isn't yet fully optimized, but it really appears that the latest iteration of MSFS seems to have reversed the old paradigm of taxing the CPU more than the GPU.
