Price seems way higher here in UK. On Nvidia site now,. 3090 starting at £1399.99......That's closer to 1875USD!

Bear in mind US prices never include state taxes as they vary state to state.

Lenovo listings can be inaccurate (once they listed a GTX 1180), and they are also listing an RTX 3070 Super. Could be OEM-only models. Probably best to wait some more until we have more definitive information on future models. There's already been quite some confusion with AIB partners reporting the amount of shaders as CUDA cores and a 7nm process.

Important to note that these cards specialize in Ray Tracing and DX12, both of which are not implemented in MSFS.

So other than some small fps gains, the 3000 series will not provide big boost in performance in MSFS, yet.

I really hope Asobo implements DX12 and Ray Tracing before VR comes out. Because if the hardware exists to enable 60 fps in VR, no point if the game engine can’t capitalize on all that power because they’re using dinosaur era code.

That is hard to say for sure yet but in the preliminary testing we are seeing big gains n both ray-traced and non-ray-traced games and that was how nVidia was presenting it.  How that translates into MSFS is anyones guess but we can extrapolate some things like if you are going from a 1070 to a 3070 you should expect somewhat similar performance to a 2080 Ti in MSFS

My guess, those with 2080Ti’s will find it hard to justify the cost. Price vs performance is unlikely to be attractive for them. Time will tell.

Exactly my thinking but we’ll see how the real world testing goes

My MB, an Asus TUF Mark1 X299 features PCIE 3.0 but the new 3000 Series is PCIE 4.0. Do I need a new MB too?

You should be fine it will run on 3.0 but of course it would be better to have the larger badwidth

I've seen some prices mentioned here. but I can't find a site that is currently listing any of the RTX30 series cards yet (looking at US sites). Where are people seeing the cards?

No way.  I do not buy any used stuff online. Especially a graphics card... you could very likely be buying a lemon that could break any moment.

I have bought two used GPU's on ebay including my current 1070ti, both going strong. You just need to buy from a good seller and know exactly how they used it.

Better performance with new RTX is connected to DLSS. Asobo not impemented DLSS to MSFS so im not sure if performace will be much more decreese.

You will need first DX12...

Currently, i hesitate between the RTX 3080Ti and the RTX 3090?

Well I  think you will be fine with X16 lane and bandwidth in a single config.

PCI 4.0 and more modern NVMe drives will benefit in combination with RTXIO more of the increased bandwidth

It appears to me that 3090 actually is the revised nomenclature for the 3080Ti

My decision is made. I'll buy a 3090.

Main reason is the amount of fast VideoRAM (24 GB!). I remember too good what happened when P3Dv5 came out with DX12. Even with a 11GB card the limits were reached quickly. I don't want to run into the same problems when MSFS switches to DX12. And I'm also keen on the next-generation VR.

Now I'm starting to calculate ... one beer less per week is probably not enough maybe two ... 😉 ...
