I'm following a project, not a thread.

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

What I could not understand from Roberts previous comments, in real life when ones safety depends upon the engine of a single engine aircraft, to operate the aircraft flat out is never actually done. I have noticed Roberts’s colleague’s comments with interest. On my A36, turbo normalised meant operating the aircraft at 24/24, about 75% of the power available which one could do up to around 12000 feet and as one went higher increase the throttle until it was fully forward around 15000 feet. The addition of the turbocharger then allowed the engine to operate at 75% up to around 24000 feet.  Higher than this, the power started to drop off until the TAS dropped off to the point there was no point in being up there. One had to say it was very cold playing around at that altitude. The point being, it is very unusual to ever operate an engine at full power and expect it to be reliable or achieve its TBO. Because of the cost of the oxygen in addition to the fuel, unless I had to get over the weather I never went above 12000 feet.

This why real turbo engine has very low TBO. Saying this most GA airplane that operate under FAR part 61 TBO is optional

They weren't comments from me actually. They were a re-publish of Turbo-normalised owners' comments on the Tornado Alley website feedback page and other sites. I wasn't suggesting that in cruise you are compelled to run the engine flat out and you are rather misrepresenting what I honestly reported. What I said was that in the opinion of many Turbo-Bonanza owners, there was little point in climbing out with much reduced power as the difference (in the end) in fuel costs were negligible, because you save in distance what you would have saved in a slower climb.

Also many of the owners comments broadly agreed that there was evidence that running the turbo-normalised engine with reduced rpm in the climb had little benefit maintenance wise, and that a faster cruise-climb had benefits (for example of cooling).

You are representing some of these comments as though they came from me, but they didn't. I am faithfully reporting for the sake of open debate and info for people here and enthusiasts what owners (and a large proportion of them) were saying. I have no personal views as I have only flown a Bonanza once and have never owned or hired one.

Have a look for yourself at the relevant pages and you'll see the interesting comments that you think came from me:

Thank you for this great mod, It is truly appreciated! I would love to use it, but I cannot get it off the ground. Full power (90-100kts)  down the runway pull back on the yoke, she won't climb (w\Flaps 1 notch). Other mods, no problem. Am I doing something wrong? I start on the runway, so I assume the aircraft is setup properly. I have downloaded and installed several times. However I do have my own naming convention for mod folders in the "Community" folder. I have renamed the folder "aircraft Bonanza-Turbo-V3", could that be my problem. I also make sure the aircraft mods load after the "workingtitle-g1000" mod (I believe this is the preferred MSFS2020 load sequence).

Regards

Renaming the folder should not be an issue. i do it all the time

It sounds more like you are having issues with the trim bug and are getting fairly extreme down trim instead of takeoff trim.

Rob suggests cycling the yoke through full movement after spawning as a work around for the trim bug.

Thanks for that! I'll give it a try. I should have picked up on the bug and researched the mod a bit more in the forums.

Not 100% sure it is the trim bug but a Bonanza with flaps should be rotating by itself somewhere around 70 -80  knots and the turbo normalised version with prop and throttle full forward climbs like a scalded cat, easily 1000 fpm once your over 80 knots .

Unfortunately not for me, I even UP trimmed to 8 or 9, won't get her nose up. The mod doesn't work for me. I have no problem with other mods. Thanks Glenn.

....I tried the default aircraft and I got off the ground did a downwind leg. It felt like a default aircraft.  I'm sure the mod would be 100% better and a joy to take control of. It's a shame the mod will not co-operate with me.

You probably had the same issue I did.....your sim put itself in legacy flight model mode.

Don't know why mine did it all by itself a few updates back...but if you're sim is in Legacy....switch it to modern and enjoy the best plane in the sim thanks to Robert's mod!

That was it! Thanks so much Steve! You are correct it is THE must have mod for MSFS2020. Just a quick question though, does this mode get reset every time there is an MSFS2020 update?

No but it might break.  I'd recommend, (for any mod), to temporarily clear your Community folder before an update.  Then place them back in (or enable if you use one of those addon linker apps).

Thanks for that as well. I have been backing up everything in the Community folder when there is an update to the sim.

Glad that solved it for ya.  Was driving me batty when I was trying to do some group flights with @cavaricooper with her when @robert young 1st released the mod.

We'd line up in formation on the runway, ease the throttles forward, and with Carl in the lead, I watch him gracefully lift off the pavement....I'd try to do the same, gently pulling the stick back...triple checking the trim just beforehand to make sure it was set to TO position....and then I pulled, and pulled, and pulled.....she remained stuck to the ground as the end of the runway rapidly approached.

Of course if this was a real flight, I'd aborted the takeoff long ago when I didn't feel the elevator responding to my inputs, but this was flightsim, and wanting to have a nice flight with Carl, I just jerked her into the air, figuring Robert somehow really messed up the ground dynamics on his mod, and she'd be fine once airborne.   Couldn't be more wrong.  Long story short if it was a real flight I'd be a statistic, the NTSB would be out investigating the smoking hole I left in the Florida sand.

So after that, and Carl's (and others) great reports about how nice she flew and handled, I was determined to find out why it was trying to kill me every flight.  Poking thru the settings I stumbled across that dang "Legacy" setting.   I know for a fact I never touched it, so it was either always on for me (it didn't affect other craft as much to even be that noticeable)....or one of the then-weekly updates switched it.  Its on my list of things to check from now on. 😉

I've easily flown this fantastic plane more than all others, even the beloved Mooney, as I've been dabbling in FSEconomy and for it, the 6 seat Bonanza is way more profitable to fly than the Mooney which only seats 4 of course.  I've criss-crossed all over California shuttling pax 5 at a time to and from airports I'd never even look at previously, and its an amazing experience just to see all the airports and how they are rendered in MSFS...and I didn't even know they were there in previous versions of flightsim.  You could spend months just visiting the airports in California!

Steve Dra
