Concerns re MSFS2020 current features

Featured Replies

Hi Frank,

MSFS has been released too early but they are releasing updates at a regular pace.

Some aircraft fly better than others. Some regions look better than others.

See it as an Early Acces where improvements have been planned over time (see the roadmap). And sometimes larger updates that fixes a lot of minor things can also break other, more visible, things. Like the water.
That needs time.

In the coming months, years it should be working better and better.

Just try it from time to time ..

regards,

Gerard

ndeed, these comments from so-called long term FS experts, with their totally unreasonable opinions & expectations, and the idea that, because they have been simming since the Wright brothers started flying, that their word is gospel & thinking that we really care with their 'entitled' utterances,...., 2nd post on Avsim, after 40 years of simming..

Why don't you get of your high horse? Before you insult other users about being entitled, remember you're the one who had a breakdown over people calling it MFS2020.

Having a ultra high res DEM for the entire world, is still a long way. To stream it, people are gonna have to have crazy internet speed, wich probably means 3/4 of the player base would not be able to fly. Make it a downloadable DLC, and you probably have a few 1To SSD filled with just the DEM.

Not necessarily. 10M DEM is normally more than good enough for a flight simulator, and a decent sized area is no bigger than a few textures on a POI that could be easily streamed in. The biggest issue won't be the download sizes, but rather the impact it will have on performance and also obtaining such data that is clean and good to use is easier said than done. Currently it's not possible for 3rd parties to do this in the SDK, so it's at the mercy of MS and not a company such as Pilot's

I'm puzzled, everyday, by the reactions some posts get here at the MFS AVSIM Forum just because the authors DARE to share their thoughts about what they don't like about MFS, even when they make clear they do like the platform for the many reasons it should appeal to anyone who likes flight simulation...

Heck, isn't a Forum supposed to be a place where we share our thoughts, in correct language and not in a trolling mood, or even with trolling mood because sometimes it can be justified ?

It's becoming truly RIDICULOUS and SAD !

I totally agree. People are more and more unable to know what critizising means - they are scared to hear "negative" informations and guess critics are poison ("toxic"). Critics make good things better - what the hell is bad about that?

High horse? lol,  a simmer of 40 years holding a pity party, with 2 posts? THATS riding a high horse..

Indeed I did, I could never understand the arrogance of using thumb-sucked names, & claiming it's correct to do so.

Greetings @FrankK and welcome

Don't be impressed by all those who can't support any criticism of Asobo's baby and sharing of thoughts contrary to theirs. They seem to come here just to pounce on people of a different opinion.

You will learn to ignore them. There is an excellent forum function which allows to hide them from your time line.  The good news is that they are a small bitter lot and there is a majority of good folks too.

I'd say many old timers like you and me share both the delight of having this new sim and the frustration that it generates because it was not ready to prime time, specially in the aircraft department. And we need to say what is wrong. And to repeat it as long as things that matter us, are not corrected. And Avsim is a good place to, as good as the official forum.

The DEM, one of the pet peeves of mine, for instance is a regression to what 3rd party developers offer right now for P3D  and the SDK does'nt yet allow to inject a new one. It will hopefully come in time.  Neuman, the lead manager on the MS side, said the US will have a new mesh soon after Japan. Now if they could do the Alps...

Many of us have been too busy flying to respond to allot of this.  Just did a flight out of Henderson Nevada to Stellar airport (private strip in Phoenix) and it was amazing.  What get's me every time is no other version of Flight Simulator was ever this smooth.  Flying the modded CJ4 in the southwest is amazing.  Whether it be from Sedona to Aspen, Scottsdale to Bryce Canyon airport it's impressive.  The issues with patch 1.9.3 was terrible.  For me it gave new meaning to the term 'Dolphin Dance' in my favorite aircraft like the Longitude.  That has somewhat been corrected to a point I can fly the bird.  Now it's just exploring again.  FS2020 has a long way to go and when we see issues report it.  Some of these growing pains will make us mad but let's hope we see continued improvements without serious mistakes with each new patch.  This sim is so much better than what came before it and for any aviation fan we should all want this to succeed.  Every time I try to go back to an alternative I can't, everything else looks like a bad cartoon. If FS2020 doesn't work I might be out the sim game, that's how good this version is.

Most of us don't join flightsim forums to fight. We join to discuss flight simulation. Sadly, this place is becoming more like a boxing ring as each day passes.

Making a lot of posts does not increase the value of your posts.

Of the concerns listed, my biggest concern is that Asobo is nerfing graphics quality to make this sim run better on lower-spec platforms at higher settings, which I feel is a very bad decision. I've seen it on my own rig, where now I can run with ultra settings and still get good performance (I used to have to use mostly High settings to maintain 30 fps), but I'm no longer seeing ultra quality graphics. I'd much rather be forced to use high or even medium settings and have the option to run truly ultra settings at a lower framerate (or upgraded hardware) if I choose.

I don't know if this is a side-effect of getting MFS ready for XBox, or if it's unintended, but it's definitely the wrong direction to take the sim. Heck, add a "really low" graphics setting if you have to, but don't make Ultra the new Medium just to make me feel better about my non-ultra hardware. I really hate seeing a game / sim I bought get downgraded with each update.

Im still not sure of "the legend of the intentional graphical nurfing" is a thing.

From what I gather I’d say « unintended », giving them the benefit of the doubt. My take is that the dynamic streaming is a little too new to be fully mastered.

The "intentional" part is definitely speculative, but the change in graphic quality isn't. I've seen it myself, as have others. I bring it up in this thread based on comments about water quality being "nerfed".

I'm not super-salty about it, because even "nerfed", this flight sim is still years ahead of any other sim I've used, but I do get disappointed when I see "super incredible amazing" downgraded to just "pretty amazing". But I'm a bit of a "graphics snob" with an eye for minute details, so I often see things other people don't (drives my wife nuts, LOL).

This sim has many fundamental flaws, and is in a state of such immaturity that it is truly frustrating to use....and yet regularly provides moments so sublime that I can't bring myself to use any other sim.

yea, i have to confess i fly on mostly low to medium settings, so i didnt really notice a huge change going from patch to patch (except maybe the LOD thing)

It wasn't meant to be taken literally. if your first post is going to be a critic/complaint, not everyone is going to be handing out flowers as a welcome. Anyway... enough said.
