Aerosoft comments on SDK

I know it is all rather subtle, but if you see these images at full resolution (click on them) you will understand why we do not rush this release. Graphically this is really a step beyond what P3D V5 can do. Not only in speed (measured in polygons per second shown) but the shading and lighting are on par with the best games at this moment. We REALLY want to use every option there is.

But as Hans shown, we still need some love from Asobo to solve problems. But many (many!) issues have been solved in talking to them. The people at Asobo are really amazing and we are sure they will make our release using all the options the  new sim has to offer possible.

Any 3PD will tell you the SDK is an absolute joke and provides very little. I'm shocked that a game that relies heavily on their 3PDs would even think of releasing in this state.

Except for the fact that none of them are saying that.  In fact Aerosoft, PMDG and Carenado have all made a specific point of saying how productive their relationship with Asobo has been.  They agree that there is considerable work to do, but none of them are saying it is a joke.

So far the release schedule by all of those developers is matching a similar path to how it went with their initial outings on older sims.

should open up the SDK yourself and see what it offers. its pretty intense and the amount of telemetry it offers for testing is superb. But you would not know that if all you do is follow the blind.

Why listen to what they actually say when we can make up whatever we want /s

Ok try to dig yourself out this one with this ridiculous post.

Slightly off topic but that CRJ when you right click open in new tab and zoom right in looks mighty impressive 😄

Certainly one 3PD regularly says that on these forums, but at least publicly the larger 3PDs are bullish for the medium / long term.

Same one who said MSFS was years away from being released. Currently, he’s trying to convince everyone that stock P3D is equal to MSFS, and P3D V6 will surpass MSFS.  It’s funny because the actual talented modelers (eg FlyTampa, FS DreamTeam, etc...)seem hard at work bringing their products to MSFS.

Most of the notable 3PDs who have spoken about the SDK, have said that it's still very incomplete, but that they are optimistic at the progress being made, and impressed with the communication and responsiveness from Asobo. That latter part has been stated by virtually all of them.: PMDG, Aerosoft, Orbx, FSLabs - even people like Umberto at FSDT.  There are a couple who are more pessimistic and blunt, but I also know at least one of them has a fairly conspicuous, shall we say, "rooting interest" in a competitor.

Like other things, we all wish the SDK was more complete, so aircraft makers especially could work with no impediments - though it'd still be many months before we saw complex airliners, even if it had been 100% ready for August 18th.  I'm sure some of these outfits are a little frustrated at the roadblocks to getting these projects moving as fast as they can.  Hell, I suspect ideally they wanted a complete SDK months before release, to have stuff ready soon after launch.

Part of me would like to see Asobo contract out help to complete the SDK faster, but it sounds like a lot of the remaining work is with documentation of their own tools and engine, which means a contract outfit might not even be able to help much.

Asobo aren't incompetent, and I'm sure they are aware of the clamor for study level airliners and whatnot.  But this work still takes time, and Asobo are being pulled in about half a dozen directions right now, between the sim, the Xbox port, the DX12 team, the SDK team, the VR team, and so on.

Yeah, they released too early (probably not Asobo's choice, by the way).  But we can't put that toothpaste back in the tube, so we can try to be patient, or have the same tedious, cyclical debates about this stuff for the next several months.

For all of the mockery about some of the overheated hype about how MSFS was going to be the sim to end all sims forever, I've noticed a lot of people hanging onto similar confident assertions that XP12 and or P3D6 are going to close all of the gaps, despite little being known right now.

There is a difference in opinion because you have different developer goals.   PMDG, and FSL will have a much more difficult time with the SDK for now simply because they go all the way with their simulation. That is full systems to the extent of failures implemented.   Aerosoft aircraft, have decent systems simulation, but do not simulate failures.  In this respect , the SDK while incomplete, is workable enough to complete an aircraft.  This is confirmed by a few posts earlier by Hans who is main developer on the CRJ.

The good news is that we currently don't face any immediate roadblocks in MSFS or its SDK that would stop or delay development.

And it wouldnt be in the best interests of Asobo if they in fact were weak on the SDK. They know very well that its future depends alot on 3PDs expanding the capabilities and aircraft options going forward.  It just takes time and patience.  This community does not have alot of patience including me when we are anxious to have much high quality aircraft.  But im no developer, so have no control over it.  Simply wait and or go fly in another platform.
