The latest HDMI standard supports a dedicated 'cockpit rain effects' signal (see table) signal, whe're as DP multiplexes this with all effects. This. If the new graphics cards have built in rain effects functionality, and the rain is being generated post-process, it seems entirely possible that some devices or outpputs might not support it. Pretty interesting. I have also noticed some weird behavior in the way the aircraft gets rendered. When you move the drone camera viewpoint for example, the aircraft appears to be stenciled onto the screen and doesn't transform like a moving object in 3D world would.

The post you quoted was a joke. The GPU renders to a frame buffer and then data from the buffer gets sent to an output chip that clocks it onto the DP or HDMI output. It is the same framebuffer regardless of the output. It makes 0 sense that you would see anything different between 2 outputs on the same graphics card. Oh a joke, oh stupid me fell right into it. Edited October 28, 20205 yr by dobee51

Although I also think like most of you it is not possible FS2020 rain depends on which of DP or HDMI you're using, there is still a technical different prior the output: 1) Bugs or OS/driver limitations might make DRM/HDCP causing one output working differently than the other, but in this case it would all or nothing and this is supposed to be for video only. 2) Bugs or user configuration might make HDMI and DP not outputting the same color depth (say for example HDR or SDR, 10bits or 8bits etc...). In this case, it might be possible some subtle changes of color gets less visible with a lower bit count. Regardless, rain is certainly not falling in these two categories!
October 28, 20205 yr I certainly lost rain effects in live weather having seen them very well when I first installed the sim (on release so have then installed each update). Pre-set rain has been fine throughout. I have just changed to HDMI from DP after reading somewhere that changing the cable could cause some sort of graphics reset. Since doing the change I have got rain effects again in live weather....doesn't make any sense but I see a difference.

October 28, 20205 yr Saying that changing the cable solves a problem of displaying a variant like rain is really ridiculous. The cable only carries the information from the card to your screen. If the cable was defective, rain and other game textures would have display problems. A defective cable is all or nothing. It works or it doesn’t work.If your cable was faulty why it does not appear in other games, Windows 10. Curious logic... Well... what if the Display Port cable is not sealed as tight as the HDMI Cable, then condensation, caused by the heat from the display adapter interacting with the humidity of the air causes moisture to form within the cable, which is then wicked up through the cable to the monitor, which then projects the moisture upon the back of the monitor screen giving the false, but easily mis-identified rain effects seen on the windshield. October 28, 20205 yr Possibly it is a DHCP issue. The rain effects may be copyright protected and only display correctly if your port supports DHCP 😄
