What a difference 8 years can make in flight simulation!

Featured Replies

This was 8 years ago in FSX

and this is now in MSFS 2020

What's even more amazing is that the 1st video is running with all the bells and whistles of 3rd party add-ons while MSFS is almost mostly default asides from the fbwa320nx.

It's basically a reality that 8 years form now we wont be able to tell a difference. What a time to be alive.

The first video isn't a direct feed though. They're recording their screen from a camera.

If MSFS didn’t come out, maybe in 8 years time from today, in 2028, XPlane  and P3D would look like MSFS of today. And that’s just a maybe - I’m being lenient with XPlane and P3D because the improvement of both over the last 8 years graphically had been moving at a snail’s pace.

MSFS just saved us at least 8 year’s worth of time. A flight simulator now has the graphics of a modern 2020 video game, something I wouldn’t have dreamed about that long ago.

In a nearest future games as well as the next FS will be created by AI. Human coders are not competitive anymore! 😃

Well there's always the Parellel 42 Frying Pan 2020.

And still 8 years later we're struggling to get decent performance out of this sim. Some things never change...

I have no issues at 1440p on a 2 to 4 year old PC ... i have to assume you have a very old PC or are running on a 4K TV.

You could take out your frustrations with MS combat flight simulators.

This is CFS 1, not the more familiar much later CFS 3.

(CFS 2 was the Pacific, could land on carriers).

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

FS 3 sounded way better than this (he must be using an emulator on a modern computer which messes up the sound).

I wish they would make a modern Combat Flight Sim. That was fun. IL2 is pretty good as well, although I haven't spent anytime there with the release of MSFS. I am always thinking that this is the bottom floor, we are only months in... so much more to go!
