What a difference 8 years can make in flight simulation!

Beg you pardon ? 😄 Since when FSX ever delivered on "the actual simulation of flight". Everyone knows that FSX and P3D is basically like train sim, in the air. Planes are on rails, doesnt feel like flying at all. XPlane was (is?) the best for that aspect.

Ah the Asobo fan club arrived...

Anyhow the same is true of the train sims... MSTS or it's community freeware update Open Rails may be old but it still does a better job of simulating rail vehicle physics than the "modern" Dovetail simulator or the Freddy Kreuger of the train sim world - Trainz. Or indeed as does Run8, sparse scenery but the actual train handling is second to none.

Anyway, they're all just "games". Only in the most fanciful of fantasies would anyone expect these titles to closely approximate what you would experience in the real world, or allow you to operate a real aircraft or train...

It is a great improvement. Monumental in fact.   Think the biggest change going forward was the jump from 32bit to 64bit.   End of those word not allowed OOMs on final and opened up another world of possibilities.   And now we have next gen graphics, code that properly uses modern hardware, and in a year or two some amazing high fidelity aircraft.  Oh and not to forget big complements to the freeware dev community that does a freaking awesome job elevating the default aircraft.   More than we have ever seen in other previous sims.

But whats even more mind boggling, is the amount of complaining, whining, and stomping of the feet in the newest sim.   Theres a whole lot more negative than positive comments.  And when I say negative, its no where near constructive. I would hate to be a developer, because it  would be darn depressing to read.   I never expected this next gen sim to be great or fantastic at launch or even soon after.   But seems many dont have realistic expectations.   Oh and BTW its not pointed at Avsim per se. Its coming across posts here, the official MS forum, FB, IG , Reddit. Everywhere.  Decided to stop reading the threads so much.

Not forgetting that the SDK, and the familiarity with it for developers, was not so difficult since preceding versions of Flight Simulator used similar-enough architecture to means that add-ons from preceding versions either worked, or if not, could be made to work with some tweaking, not to mention this enabling TPDs to be familiar with the process over many preceding years, as opposed to this essentially being a completely new structure in the new MS sim, with perhaps not all, but certainly a good deal of previous TPD knowledge being redundant.

Triggered a memory here in that I origionally bought FSX deluxe (as it was then) because that was the only version that allowed you to even work with the SDK on release..  if you had the basic version you were unable to use the SDK 🙂    And that didn't change until the expansion pack came out (update 2) if i remember some 3 years later..  again if i remember correctly.

And when I say work with the SDK..  I mean  it allowed you to spend a month of tearing your hair out and downloading another 9-10 different compiled programs  and sacrificing 3 cows and finding a virgin  (the really hard bit) to even get it to work 🙂   And we get complaints about the current SDK a couple of months after launch  <shrug>

 Sorry  little things...

Sigh.....here we go again...

Here is my answer (a man of few words) 🤣

Loving my screenshot simulator.  For those who want to enjoy it as much as me but are having issues preventing them, I feel for you and if you're in the MSFS hate camp because of it, I hope you keep working at it to get it working.  Nothing in my long simming experience has inspired me more than an early, sunrise flight with my friend @cavaricooper over younameit Florida or Monument Valley.

To everyone else discussing the pain points of the sim with resolute conviction that it's KRAP, especially the issues everybody is quite familiar with, trust me, we know.  Move along please.  This sim is not for you, we get it.  Let us enjoy our misery in piece and amongst ourselves. 🙂

Hmm. Yea. You'r basically saying the same thing i said, so i guess you must be in the Asobo fan club too?

That guy advertised FSX as great for "the simulation of flying". And i just said it isnt great for that. Its possibly the worst aspect of FSX.

And i didnt mention Asobo in my post.

(I freakin love MSFS tho) 😆

Ho ho. No I never bent the knee and told the white porkie pie that it would be for anything other than entertainment... ;)

It has been a huge leap. Looking forward to the next 5 years of flight simulation!

nonsense, this runs surprisingly good, better than fsx or xplane.

Runs 100% smooth on my system as well, and my computer's a few years old.  I expected it to be an issue but MSFS does a great job of handling a ton of objects,  tons more than were ever available in FSX.
