November 12, 20205 yr FS2020 is just mega, its the best sim out there by far, no question. Its the scenery and the weather that makes it, its incredible, im flying around south America at the moment in real time with real weather as I always do and the views are out of this world, I cant can't get over how magnificent the scenery is and the weather, the lighting etc...phenomenal! Fsx, p3d and xp11 and Ive had them all are well gone off my hard drive, they served their purpose at the time but there is just no comparison to FS2020. And its the TBM930 with the mods what I am flying, I love that plane, I just wish x aviation wud some how port their TBM 910 over from XP11 or make one specifically for FS2020.... now that wud be mega! Is it just me? I have not had FSX installed in close to ten years. From hazy recollection FSX did have a few more "game like" activities but you got bored with them pretty quick. I suppose if I was still using the same computer as 10 years ago I would prefer FSX as it is a lot less demanding, that is assuming I could even get MSFS to run at all on a 4GB Core Duo 😄

Is it just me? Older versions of MSFS2020? or simulators in general? Older versions of 2020 I completely agree! It’s not the same product I purchased back in August and I haven’t touched it since the Japan Update (being the biggest downgrade in certain areas of the game thus far.) Personally I feel like it was bait and switch but I should have known that this was their “style” when they showcased the release trailer displaying the awesome looking water masking that is non-existent in the actual product (something they continue to falsely show off when they do their regional showcases)
November 12, 20205 yr I am having a ball with the new sim. I've been in the flight sim game on and off since Sublogic FS on a C64. This is the first sim that out of the box is playable for me. Ok, the early versions were playable but obviously were very limited. Any version from FS95 to FSX has to have graphic settings dramatically lowered with the hardware I had at the time. I actually have a system that can run the sim in ultra @ 1080p. That's amazing to me considering the scenery detail (and I thought the Megascenery offerings for FSX were amazing). I fly GA exclusively so don't have the issues that the folks running the airliners do (sure, there are issues with the GA planes too). This version has only been out for just over 2 months now. I definitely want to see some more aircraft (GA without glass cockpits and some regional jets). Over time, developers will provide these along with the airliners. I'm here for the long haul (already put a lot of $$$ into hardware).

Is it just me? Probably a lot to do with the SDK issues limiting what TPDs can do initially. On the plus side however, Air Hauler is allegedly only a few days away from release for MSFS, and that's always something which makes flight sims more fun. They’re cool and “wiz bangy”, but after purchasing them I found they turned the GA aircraft into mini-airliners operations wise, maybe what made GA fun in FSX/P3D - but with the scenery in VFR flight feels so much more engaging and fun than pushing buttons and watching the airplane follow the programming like in an airliner. Did I miss something? Did I not give it enough time to see what the fuss was about? I’m not trying to be contrarian. I’m genuinely curious as it’s a recurrent theme in your posts?

If you're a VFR flyer, you didn't really miss anything (although I use GTN and GNS for VFR as well). As a current RW pilot, I enjoy using the GNS430W - and then using the same avionics in the sim makes radio/nav work muscle memory basically. Also, more regarding the GTN650/750 - the clickspots in the sim are something that has always bothered me. Most click "zones" are too small and tricky to get to for online flight (vatsim/PilotEdge/ivao etc) so the touch screen functionality of the GTN is super nice to have for the style of flying I do. I actually use the RealityXP versions, but yes, me mentioning them is a constant theme haha - they're just incredible avionics, both real world and the sim. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
November 12, 20205 yr I've never flown so much GA in my life as I have since the release of MSFS. I still go back to P3D for tubeliner flying (had a great flight in the FSL A319 today), but I find myself spending 80% of my sim time in MSFS just picking two airports and flying a GA aircraft between them. This makes complete sense and now I understand where you’re coming from. Same as I’ve seen real world pilots using the sim now to pre-fly there real world routes in the sim now, especially if going into an unfamiliar field, as a dry run prior to the actual flight. Thanks for your reply... I hope they’re implemented in the sim sooner rather than later for your sake. Edited November 12, 20205 yr by Cmcollazo71

That's usually what I'm doing. I'd rather shoot some approaches (but the avionics, as you know, aren't up to snuff). Also, I'd love to fly a Flysimware Learjet or something but we don't have one. While I love everything about the FSL Airbus and enjoyed my time flying it today, I really look forward to the point in the future when I can retire P3D and completely move over to MSFS. One thing flying all this GA has done is get me interested in upping my GA game in terms of realism and doing all the things a GA pilot would do, ie verbal radio calls/proper VFR ATC procedures (currently in in Pilot2ATC getting comfortable with making voice radio calls working my way up to joining Pilotedge), actually changing my radios by hand rather than pressing keys in default ATC (and in turn planning ahead as to what frequency is likely next), getting the hang of what the GPS units can do (even if currently limited). I recently bought the RealSim Gear GNS530/430 combo and it has moved some of my airliner hardware further back on my desk so I guess I'm turning into a real GA sim pilot lol. Getting a real license is not likely in the cards so this will be the next best thing. Even with the top tier A2A GA aircraft in P3D, GA flying never managed to grab and hold anywhere near this much of my attention. Just imagine once we actually get A2A in MSFS... Just imagine once we actually get A2A in MSFS... Oh I can and do imagine it hehe. Pilotedge - I use that pretty often. It seems funny to say this but flying on there has made my radio calls for real, so simple. You'd think since I'm ATC its easy...but sometimes I get screwed up on from the pilot radio side of things....(I'm pretty low time VFR guy) so PE is a big confidence booster! I know the area is limited, and a lot of people don't like that part, but it REALLY increases the realism, and you're not only flying/navigating, you're also changing frequencies quite often (in Socal) - so increased workload, and the airspace is complex.... it just makes you a better pilot (sim pilot or real!) | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
November 12, 20205 yr FSX and it’s offshoot, also X Plane and all those other sims were more fun because they were just a game. MSFS is a proper simulator, not a game. That’s why the OP finds it less fun. Ask any real pilot, sim sessions are usually highly stressful and never relished. Being so realistic, this one stresses you out more. Flying into clouds is daunting, looking down gives you vertigo, this is as real as it gets. 😝😝😝(tongue in cheek before you lambast me 🙂) Edited November 12, 20205 yr by RaptyrOne GregH Intel Core i7 14700K / Palit RTX4070Ti Super OC / Corsair 32GB DDR5 6000 MHz / MSI Z790 M/board / Corsair NVMe 9500 read, 8500 write / Corsair PSU1200W / CH Products Yoke, Pedals & Quad; Airbus Side Stick, Airbus Quadrant / TrackIR, 32” 4K 144hz 1ms Monitor
