Lightning where it shouldn't is still not fixed...Dang!!

Featured Replies

Hello All,

Been sorta optimistic lately...have has some good experiences.

But today, it happened....lightning in clearing weather.

Central MS:  We did have a front come through today...with sporadic severe weather reports, including a possible tornado in W. Jackson.

This was/is associated with a cold front...Passed through here and was gone before 12:00 CST.....which you can still see on the map now.

About 15:00, Loaded up to see how the cold front would look....sure enough the live weather setting show storms...but as of that time, it was and still is partly sunny....with clouds towards the SE....clearing.  NW is clear, even now.

Got some pics....I guess I'll submit another bug report.

I have heard from others...but I now see if for myself...the weather(storming) is STILL not FIXED.

OK, optimism:   The cold front depiction is great!!!  If only there were no lightning and thunder.

But be warned, the lightning and thunder still is a problem.

Thanks All

Happy Holidays

UPDATE:  Bug Report submitted....Tried again....still shows storms.  Cloud depiction is still close....but with thunder and lightning still.

word not allowed...Still love  ya...but dang...

They will be increasing the threshold that triggers lightning with a future update, and will talk to Meteoblue if the problem persists.

Like with the last Q&A, with Today's they've said they can't narrow it down. They need people to report where and when it's happening, not only that it is happening.

Thanks for that info/response so far!  I hope that would help out with this issue.

The last time before now, and yes, I remember the last Q&A...I did just that, I sent them my nearby airport of KJAN...during that time it seemed like it was happening constantly....So I did sent them a specific location.  This time, I made sure I gave them a timeframe, good point...I try to be detailed in the reports I have placed...but last time I may not have.

Was a bummer seeing it again....but...I'm a fan and I am really pulling for the platform and I am encouraged listening to the developers from the last Q&A.  This stuff just takes time 🙂

Take Care,

RB

Today, 11/26/20, I had lightning at Philadelphia (KPHL) at 15:10 UTC, when in reality it was only overcast with rain showers, and I highly doubt it was lightning.  However, the "Flight Conditions" at the upper right of World Map actually showed lightning as the conditions.  So this wasn't a case of lightning in clear skies, but rather an inaccurate weather depiction, I think,

When we report in Zendesk, we need to give Asobo all relevant weather values - but then again we really don't have much to give them so this will be an endless circle! I didn't check but maybe flipping over into dev mode will give some weather data?

We can tell Asobo what the wind direction, speed, and the outside air temperature... but that's about all. I suppose we can also tell them UTC time/date and nearest real world metar report - and compare to give them approximate cloud coverage in the sim, cloud height, etc.?

I'm guessing Asobo has to catch the lightning "in the act" - e.g. they can't go back "in time" to replicate the weather conditions, like you can in ActiveSky.  That's probably why it's so hard for them to reproduce. By the time they investigate a Zendesk report, the issue is no longer occurring at the specified location.

For me in this last patch I have noticed there has been quite a bit less times of the lightning 'out of the blue'. My last flight early on 11/26 from Syracuse to Boston had some of the highest/densest clouds since flying thru outer edges of Laura(pre-lightning problem). While I did have lightning that I quickly loaded up a lightning map where it show nearest live lightning was off S. Carolina coast at the time. It did only last like 5 mins or so as I (assuming it was coincidence) contacted KBOS tower for clearance to land. Was promptly shot down(figuratively) and told airport was IFR only go pound sand. Nearby KBED gladly welcomed me with 1/2 or 3/4 mile visibility. But by then no lightning anymore once I was in the clouds. Was the first time in 60 or so flights that I couldn't land VFR.

KBED had it's own problem though unrelated to topic. Their ground freq. was answered by Boston. Maybe their ground controller was on break? 😏 The bad part about that was they don't me taxi instructions that I couldn't hear or see and that I also couldn't acknowledge I could only "say again?". So I just taxi'd to where the ribbon was taking me to even before I contacted ground and parked and fully shut down. Didn't get the menu popup on shutting off avionics. But I did exit it out to main menu and over to profile and to logbook and WOW flight was fully registered in logbook. Nice. Did report KBED's ground problem to Zendesk.

Guess in my long winded way what I was trying to say is I haven't seen any constant lightning on flights its been way more occasional or not at all.

SO MANY UNECESSARY CAPS AND !!!!!!!

So far I've learned two tricks (fixes) that have me jumping up with joy.

No one has discovered a workaround for the lightning where it shouldn't be bug?

Load in clear skies then change to real weather?   I've done it and and seems to work....jury is still out thought about the lightning where it should not be.

As a side note...has anyone noticed that there was a "NEW" tag in the World View window...and I was scratching my head about it until I noticed....

Did we have little lightning flashes in the clouds in the World View before and I never noticed it?   Go look...find clouds....on the dark side of the earth....see the lightning flashes? (looks like it does with NASA vids showing storms from orbit)...very cool.  Now....if its accurate....have not tested that too much (A fraidy-cat when it comes to lightning, hehe.  Lived in Fla, worked at Disney...almost got hit with it...was not a fun experience).

I’ve never noticed that before, so it could be new

I had the lightening phenom yesterday for the first time in a couple of weeks.  Was just E of Baltimore, in clouds, no rain reported within hundreds of miles.  Thought the issue was gone.  Odd, just after it started I began getting the Lost Connection issue and my MSFS slowed to a crawl.  Like from the mid 30's to between 9 to 11 FPS.  I didn't even have a view of the ground.  Changing my clouds from High to Med, then to Low did not help.  Had to quit and fly the flight in FSX SE.  Had to get to Indiana for today's Indiana - Maryland football game.
