ACTIVESKY P3D released

Featured Replies

I have been using Active Sky for ages. Currently I have P3Dv4.5 and ASP4 and I am happy of the product.

However by reading the description of the new release and the explanation by Damian:

It's a culmination of 3 years of development after ASP4 main enhancement development focus ended.  We don't have a line by line item of every single item changed, fixed, added, tuned, or adjusted, but it is a progression of our weather technology and a result of over 70 unique new builds either internally or externally tested and improved, relating to the core systems and features that affect all use including P4, P5, EA, non-EA, etc

I confess that I don't understand what are the concrete improvements. Maybe it is only me.

If someone understood, can you please share your understanding in a clear and non technical or cryptic language?

That would help me to decide whether I need to shoot my credit card or not.

I also confess that I am a medium-core simmer, and also I am not a weather specialist.

Hi Damian! While you are online at the moment: Will you continue to work on the "chessboard clouds" - problem (EA on in high altitudes)? Or is it a LM-related problem? Thanks a lot for your efforts and the excellent software!!

We will continue working on dozens of areas of EA and other things, and pretty sure LM will keep doing what they do improving things constantly.

I believe this was answered:

If you're running P3D4, you're probably not going to see the same value as someone with P5 and/or running EA mode.

Not just you, I'm not sure what the specifics are either.

What if  you bought ASP4 or AS2016 (FSX or P3D) from the now defunct flightsimstore.com... you still able to get upgrade discount?

I'm not an authority on this. My experience: if you have ASP4 or AS2016 installed, the update version of the new AS will read your serial number from either of those installations. This number along with the serial number you get when you buy the new version update will work to register your purchase.

My initial confusion was the login process, which is identical to the ASXP product. Click on the Create New Account / Login (don't recall precisely) and go from there.

Incorrect.  There are numerous benefits, just not as many as compared to P3Dv5/EA related use.  Please check out the product page, the main points are all listed there.

I'm sorry--I've read the product page--it's still very unclear to me. (Perhaps it's the proliferation of anagrams and version numbers that are confusing the issue.)

I am a p3d v4.5 user who bought Active Sky for P3D v4 in October.  Exactly what, if any benefits will I be able to see if I upgrade to this latest version?

Because the developer is obviously monitoring this forum.

He has stated that there are "numerous benefits" to upgrading for V4 users---We're just wondering what some of them are --in concrete terms --so that we and other members of the community can make an informed decision rather than wasting our money by purchasing again if the improvements do not seem worth it to us.

What's the performance impact this add-on has with P3Dv5 (EA off). I'm currently using the free P3DWX with P3Dv5 and I find it quite boring, so I'm really looking forward to this new release, but performance is a real concern for me. I don´t use any scenery, just the sim and the PMDG 777.

Just wondering.... Should/can Active Sky Cloud Art be used with this new release?  Does it enhance it or is it redundant?  Just wondering if I should (need to) install it on my new P3Dv5 install.

If you fly exclusively with EA (enhanced atmosphere), ASCA does not intervene. On the other hand if you are not using EA, then ASCA will be functional. It is up to you.

As good a place as any to ask an embarrassing question. I used to know this stuff. I'm flying from EGGW Luton near London, to LEMD Madrid, pretty much due south. Let's call it 750 miles at 300 kts IAS. Active Sky gives me this: " - Average winds (temps): 292/15 (-32.07), Temp at TOC: -53.93,  Head wind component: -3.91, More favorable winds at: FL250 (avg head winds: -5.39)." So, I've got a bit of a tailwind. The -3.92 or -5.39 is... distance for planning purposes or time of flight? Pretty negligible in this case but, gotta ask.
