We cant help it. Its our hormones. We are simple creatures we males.

And we never win.  I learned that early on.  Two wives, three daughters, a grand daughter, and a pair of great granddaughters taught me that.

Women never argue.  They're just telling you why they're right.

Hold on... I take it back. We are simple creatures, we males, in SOME, adult inclined respects.

And in other ways rather complex. Feynmam wasn't a simple creature, neither was Newton, or Archemedis, Bohr, or Albert himself.

And the girls aren't simple creatures either, in any respects. Tiera Guinn wasn't  a simple creature, neither was Elizabeth Blackwell or Vera Rubin.

In short, we hairless apes are complex creatures indeed. And one day, we will understand that our role is to be the custodians of this planet. The only species capable of looking after the flora and fauna. What a rewarding role that would be.

Sums up the women vs men thing rather nicely, I think.

Yeah. A few years ago he made comments about "giving girls a slap" which didn't go down very well at the time, and rightly so.

He did Sue, but he did make a few dodgy statements about ladies if you recall. Caused quite a stir at the time.

Those comments Sean Connery made, have always been over-enthusiastically jumped on by the PC-brigade and frequently taken out of context, by conveniently editing out the qualifying part of what he said and the medium for which he was originally asked the question too. In full, what he actually said, was:

“I don’t think there is anything particularly wrong about hitting a woman, although I don’t recommend doing it in the same way that you’d hit a man.” He added that an “openedhanded slap” is “justified” if “all other alternatives fail and there has been plenty of warning,” and further said, “If a woman is a b**ch, or hysterical, or bloody-minded continually, then I’d do it.”

It's also worth noting where it was that he said this too, because it was actually in an interview for Playboy Magazine in 1965; a publication which was hardly a bastion of women's rights, but even bearing that in mind, what he actually said is far and away different from what some people have claimed, including as it does, many qualifying comments, yet in spite of this, people have inferred that he was advocating being some kind of wife-beater or something like that, which he quite clearly was not. It's worth noting too that over the years he was asked about those comments and in 1986 he added in regard to this:

“I haven’t changed my opinion … If you have tried everything else — and women are pretty good at this — they can’t leave it alone,”  “They want to have the last word and you give them the last word, but they’re not happy with the last word. They want to say it again, and get into a really provocative situation, then I think it’s absolutely right.”

In '93 he further commented:

“I was really saying that to slap a woman was not the crudest thing you can do to her,” “I said that in my book — it’s much more cruel to psychologically damage somebody … to put them in such distress that they really come to hate themselves. Sometimes there are women who take it to the wire. That’s what they’re looking for, the ultimate confrontation — they want a smack.”

But for people who still suggest that this meant he was advocating beating women for no reason whatsoever, in 2006 he further clarified it thus:

“My view is I don’t believe that any level of abuse against women is ever justified under any circumstances. Full stop.”

Now granted, it's not the most overly PC snowflake attitude a man could ever have, but you have to view it in the context in which it was made and take note in particular of the qualifying comments which accompanied it to view it fairly. Beyond this, I would contend that if anyone has literally never-ever come across someone whom they thought needed a good slap (either male or female), then they must have been in solitary confinement. Just go out Christmas shopping and see how rude people can be, barging into you and such, then tell me you didn't want to slap at least one of them. 🤣

He's trying to put lipstick on a pig. There is not ever, for any reason, justification for hitting a woman no matter how gently or how intended and he knew it full well at the time of the initial comment. It's sort of like the politicians these days who do whatever they please and then apologize to the masses. Give me a break. Former Mr. Universe contestant or not, if I would have ever seen him striking a woman he'd be hurting a bit the next day.

Yeah... the following is pretty damming to be honest...

So if a women is persistent and insists on having the last word, and doesn't refrain  from arguing you hit her! That in essence is what he is saying there.

Sometimes the last word is "no". I don't think he ever understood that. So, what to do? Hit her of course. Beat her into submission. Exert your male dominance.  And all that other word not allowed stuff so many men don't understand about women.

A swift kick in the word not allowed place would have been better.

I think what you're all missing, is that if you say there is no justification ever for hitting a woman, does that mean you think there is no justification ever for hitting a man too, and if you don't think that, does this then mean you don't think men and women deserve equal treatment?

Are you really going to suggest that if a woman was setting about you with a baseball bat, or if she was about to trigger a suicide bomb or some such, that you would not be justified in hitting her to stop such an attack? Because this is what you are saying if you just suggest that there could never be any justification for ever hitting a woman.

This is admittedly an extreme example, but it is intended to illustrate how stupid such blanket statements are. You are very niave if you suppose domestic abuse is always directed toward women.

If you were a fighter pilot in a dog fight with an enemy fighter would you back off if you discovered the enemy pilot was a woman?

In this age of equality then I suppose a lot of our old mores need revisiting.

Noel

OK, how about this...there is never any excuse for hitting a woman unless she is about to cause great bodily harm to yourself or others. An extreme case can be made for anything, but I doubt that's what we're talking about here. This is all in the context of your quotes above which you have attributed to Connery. So, I'll stand by what I said. And don't go there with the equal treatment thing....this has NOTHING to do with equality. It's all about decency and respect.
