Setting unlimited in absence of any other frame rate control might.

In my experience it has been like that (blurries) even with external framerate limiters (NVI, RTSS). But I will give it another shot with V5.

Absolutely not!

It would be helpful if you posted your current Graphics settings (Traffic, Display, World, Lighting) , relevant Add-On list, and location where you have stutters. Otherwise we're all just "guessing".

Some tips:

  • 1080Ti will not be able to handle anything above 2X SSAA use 4X to 8X MSAA / ok that indeed helped at night with DL impact I was using only 2xSSAA
  • Level of Detail Radius = Ultra or lower / it is
  • Building density = Dense / it is
  • Dynamic 3D Autogen Vegetation = unchecked /it is
  • Water Reflections = User Vehicle only / I have a couple of more checked does it have a bigger impact then in v4?
  • Enhanced Atomospherics - Cloud Resolution = High or lower / currently set to Ultra but now that the pixilation issue is resolved with the soft clouds I assume I can bring 1 notch down
  • Godrays = unchecked / too bad these are really nice 🙂
  • Autogen and scenery draw distance = Very High or lower / it is due to the loading in patches limitation
  • Special Effect both at Low / currently set to high will lower
  • Dynamic Reflections = Low / currently set to higher, will lower
  • Shadows - Internal Vehicle, External Vehicle, Clouds, Terrain ONLY (everything else unchecked) / it is
  • Traffic - all set to 12 and Airport vehicle density Off (they just run into you anyway) / it is set to lower
  • Uncheck "Wide-view Aspect Ratio" / it is unchecked
  • If you don't have a Variable Refresh Rate monitor (G-sync or FreeSync), set monitor to 30Hz or just RTSS to limit frames to 30, in sim set Vsync On and Target frame rate = Unlimited ... if you do have a VRR monitor then Vsync off and TFR Unlimited  / OK what is RTSS?

AGAIN, without know more details, this is all just guess work.

Cheers, Rob.

Thanks very helpful, although again in v4 with same settings I wasn't experiencing these. See inline above

Bottom line is it's a pity with a 1080Ti I need to lower my settings (generally and compared to v4...)

I have a 1080 ti, but I didn't lower my settings with V5, on the contrary. But I don't use 4k, only full HD. So many variables when evaluating the performance...

i would give it a try, yes! Additionally set the low latency mode to "ULTRA" in NVI

Such option is for high frame rates games, not noticeable change in P3D

4K made a big difference in my case...

I run a 1080ti and I haven't lowered any settings in v5.1 compared to 4.5

If anything v5 is running better /smoother for me than 4.5 did.   I still have my 4.5 install around, so that I can run certain aircraft.

I do run MSAA (not SSAA) and that hasn't changed from 4.5 to 5.1.   As mentioned a 1080ti has trouble with SSAA.  You might get away with 2xSSAA but I don't run it for most of my performance preset files.

SSAA is a killer, but one thing that has really helped me to tame this setting is to purchase a 4K monitor to mitigate the need for such a setting.  Cost prohibitive I'm sure, but sort of a cure nonetheless.

A 1080Ti can handle anything above 2X SSAA, but you will need to sacrifice other aspects of your graphics settings to achieve a good balance.

For 4K I run 8msaa. Now with the 3090 I could up it but haven’t felt the need as it’s pretty crisp

FWIW, I made several changes to my set up for v5.1 versus what I had in v4.5 and this has resulted in better performance all-round, aka higher and more consistent FPS and almost complete elimination of micro stutters I saw before in 4.5 even though that wasnt excessive to begin with. And that's all on a 1070Ti.

Unlimited FPS in the sim but locked using NVI set to 30

Changed from 4xSSAA to 8xMSAA

Enabled G-sync in NVI for my new 34" monitor ("K) -was a 32" non-G-sync monitor

V4 doesn't have the same settings as V5?  EA is exclusive to V5 as is VRR and nVidia WaveWorks 2.0 (all the water).  If you disable V5 EA and turn water setting down is the performance similar to your V4?

Water Reflections ... enabling Terrain and/or Sim Objects can be a source of stutters (but this was true for V4 also).

1080Ti doesn't support hardware accelerated Ray Tracing (God Rays)

If you see Autogen loading in "batches" then you are exceed the capabilities of your CPU.

EA Cloud Resolution at Ultra will be difficult for a 1080Ti (try High or Medium) ... you didn't mention using HiFi Weather so the settings in that weather app will have a big impact with EA enabled.

RTSS is Riva Tuner Statistics Server.

V5 is DX12 and can add more load on the GPU side so I'd recommend a 2000 series or 3000 series GPU or AMD 6000 series (if you can find one).

Cheers, Rob.

NVI = Nvidia Inspector? I always mix up between the Nvidia Control Panel and the Nvidia Inspector (which isn't installed by default from what I remember)

What is the difference between RTSS and NVI?

Thanks for the info!

I run 8xMSAA  for v4.5 with a 1080 and it gives excellent results, better than SSAA.

I stopped using inspector ages ago. I think most have retired it and just use ncp

5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW  and 2  22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU,  360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next

Trying to lock the framerate externally via NVI doesn't seem to work for me. The main thread is still using the core 100 %, same micro-stutters when panning, same 5 FPS. I'm going to test the adaptive vertical sync in the NCP now, but could someone please give me their exact settings for the NVIDIA drivers and in P3D?

Best regards, Dimitrios

I'm not in front of it now.  But I use a mostly default NCP.  But under change resolution I set 30hz refresh rate.  Under NCP manage 3d settings P3D the default should tell vsync to run program settings.  So then in P3D I check vsync on / TB on. Unlimited frame rate.  That works well for me.  Once I had micro stutters and had to delete my p3d.cfg and let it rebuild.  But everybody's hardware plays differently together.
