I don't think anyone is thinking an update will fail under normal circumstances, but you have to assume worst case scenario as something could be stuck in memory in an error condition from a file lock or otherwise, as well as some updates may initiate the game engine to need to start for interop information before the update starts. As a programmer, I can see some cases where it could cause an issue, so better safe than sorry, but it's not like a do or die thing usually. Would be more likely to cause an issue if someone has a stuck process or instance of MSFS or addon they don't realize is running or stuck in the background, but there are some other cases where it may cause an issue. So the question is what setting or problem is causing it is what I wonder. you can see the mountaing morhping a bit, not much but noticeable. I had terrain set at 200 for the video. Tried at 50 now and it is a bit more evident but not so much.

They cannot seem to get these issues fixed, they fix one issue in one place and cause new ones in another. Hope they get this worked out in the next patch. At least they are some good areas to fly in, it seems to mainly affect very steep mountains, didn't see it in the Eastern US. Thanks, good to know it's not just me. I shall file a Zendesk report about it. In peroni's video it is somewhat visible, but it's a lot more obvious in my case, with the entire mountains shifting up and down. Maybe a higher Terrain Level of Detail setting helps alleviate the issue somewhat, mine is set to 50 according to the Medium preset. Also I believe there are a few very steep mountains a little further back from that spot, where it might be more obvious.

December 23, 20205 yr I've had good luck moving mods out before the update. I have tons of freeware scenery and one thing I notice is that the content manager often won't update (or in reality it just takes forever). By moving all my freeware stuff out (which is super easy), content manager runs so easily after the patch and I can check for updates. Maybe now that the sorting options are there it will be easier. I said I would keep a "clean and lean" sim, but t here's so many great freeware sceneries out there. Do I "need" to do it? Probably not, but it takes less than a minute and is a simple cut and paste. On top of that, I look at things like modded airplanes and hold back on ones that might not work (for example if MS says they changed a specific plane, it is almost guaranteed that the mod of that plane won't work correctly) ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
December 23, 20205 yr Use the MSFS linker app, one click and done. It just feels cleaner and also the main benefit besides the single-click enable/disable is that you can keep your mods in any directory structure you wish (it's much much easier to stay organized). I think the new reactivity setting adds the much needed inertia That's ture, but not because of the new sensitvity features. They are - once again - just a workaround. They seem to have reviewed aerodynamics! But I do have the impression that they changed something with the control surface authority. I need much more input at low speeds (take-off and landing) now. Also ground effect seems to be a bit less aggressive. So - good job ASOBO! Now it feels more realistic. The scenery + graphics are unmatched anyway. But there is something I noticed: While the drag / power settings seems better now in the DV20 (where I actually have RL experience), this seems to come with a strange side effect: It is extremey resistant to adjustments in glide path. I had to use full elevator deflection in order to make it level-off at flare! 😄 Happy with MSFS 🙂 home simming evolved

Also ground effect seems to be a bit less aggressive. Hopefully so, might be anecdotal but I am seeing less smooth flights in the default Cessna Longitude Jet after this last patch. I also noticed that when I was using Dev Mode over the Glacier NP area an hour ago, it kept speeding up and slowing down instead of consistently fast. It is not happening in all areas though, and I did teleport so maybe that was why, more concerned about Longitude performance and the bad Mtn pop-in effect. This is the best patch in most ways, but performance wise I am seeing issues and then we also have those mountain pop-ins which seems worse, even though they fixed MOST of the elevation issues. I'd say it's 2 steps forward and 1 step back though, which is still better than 1 step forward and 2 steps back (as it was with the previous patch). Things have always floated way too much above the runway in this game, landings and takeoffs are the main issue. Flying isn't perfect in the air either, but that is not as problematic as it's easier to deal with. I'd say landings are the biggest issue, it just doesn't feel right at all in almost any plane. You are at a perfect landing speed full of fuel and it still coasts over the runway even just a touch above stall speed sometimes. I know there are a few planes in real life that are hard to set down, but not this bad, and besides if RL flying were like this, then like 1 in every 4 landings would end up being a go-around. December 23, 20205 yr So, on the new liveries, the 'Flight Simulator' text, is freaking modelled onto the plane. it's not a texture, so that's how they got around the UV mirroring on the 747/787 instead of just fixing it. I guess that is how they also did the United livery for the Generic Airliner, because none of the textures actually have the United text on them. Edited December 23, 20205 yr by Tuskin38

Once installed, that will solve the black screen issue on centering which I had myself. 2) There is also an issue with a black stencil showing up. Go to the Oculus Debug tool: Default folder should be C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics Open the Oculus Debug Tool Turn the option “Use FOV Stencil” to Off Fix those two items and you should be fine. Thanks Larry, yeah I figured it out lastnight. I did not see anything about this in the release notes link. December 23, 20205 yr I've been seeing more live traffic after this patch, and it's also loading in faster (sometimes at the same time as me) Yes 12 isn't a lot compared to how many planes would actually be out there, but it's almost twice as many compared to what I was seeing before. A lot more GA planes too, I wonder if they changed their live traffic logic. Edited December 23, 20205 yr by Tuskin38
December 23, 20205 yr Just flown the Airbus (MSFS version) from Manchester to Birmingham - what a joy. The ILS approach seemed a little complicated so in flight I did a direct to RW15 and it worked perfectly, not long after engaged approach mode and lovely landing with me flying last 100 feet. Very happy with updates for my favourite plane. Will try FBW again soon (my normal version of the Airbus) but was curious as to how the standard plane performed and it was excellent. CJ
