Trees as far as you can see

Do you have a link to where Asobo said they tied tree height to LOD? and which LOD anyway?  It wouldn't make sense to put detailed trees way out for a user who intentionally blurred distant scenery with their settings.  and you shouldnt have trees where there shouldnt be trees.  I guess thats in the cgl files.

Asobo didn't come out and say it, but there's a long thread on the official forums where exactly that was discovered and proved out. By making all trees smaller, the terrain LOD shrinks and by making them bigger the LOD increases. The mod this post is about and the blog mod took advantage of that knowledge just for that fact.

You can experiment with this yourself without the mod by changing the tree heights in the official code. There were several thread on how to go about that too. You don't even have to do it in the official code anymore as someone made that into a mod back a while - https://github.com/cnorton-webdev/FS2020_Tree_Editor/releases/tag/v1.0.0 Change heights to your hearts content and test for yourself.

Two questions.

What are the advantages if any of the blog version over the other one.

If the mods work by creating one super sized tree type do you ever randomly find 100m palm trees or whatever when flying around ?

I had to drop down to 125 LOD, but at that I am getting smoothness (30 fps locked) and plenty of trees to the horizon. Tree set to medium inside the sim, but there are still plenty.

I am using the alternative file:-

Same fix, just smaller tree sizes.

Well done to the author.  It is a really clever fix.

This hands down has done wonders for the Caribbean islands.  It looks amazing now in the West Indies.  Now all we need is Asobo to finish the water marks in the area.  Some islands are done like the surrounding islands around Nassau, The Grenada's, some of the Virgin Islands and the eastern islands off of Puerto Rico.  May they all (the one's with real world reefs) get completed in the next patch.

OK, well that sort of explains why Asobo have persisted with the giant trees that are oversized compared to real life everywhere other than the Redwood forests of North America and the Canadian Rockies ... if they reduce the trees to a realistic size the LOD goes out the window.

I did a flight around Panama and saw terrible tall trees that clearly was a bug. Went to AUS west cost and again saw these horrible tall trees.

There's a hotfix out due to this at the blog site if still want to give it a try.

https://www.flightsimulator.blog/2021/01/05/increase-trees-draw-distance/

EDIT: After comparing the latest versions of Flightsim.to (2.0) and Flightsimulator.blog (1.7.4) mods I found that Flightsim.to mod is missing increased draw distance from cactus and some shrubs. Also, if using TLOD 200 and Trees at Ultra with blog mod you might see the tree line a bit farther.

I've read as many threads as I can find on the subject over there.  If you can provide a link, I'd greatly appreciate it.

nevermind - I think I found it.  sorry to trouble you.

Is this still the case with the tree mods?

Any height change will affect the LOD?

Bumping this old thread to ask: has anyone tested either of the two tree draw distance mods

https://www.flightsimulator.blog/2021/01/05/increase-trees-draw-distance/

https://flightsim.to/file/5318/vegetation-draw-distance-fix )

to see if they work with the latest MSFS update? Of course, would be even better if they were no longer needed, but I've seen no indication of that...

For me it works with the blogmod.

I have introduced stuff back into the community folder bit by bit (well, using the addon linker, which is great).

Blog mod tree fix, still working fine for me!

Also, loads of prop mods (more transparent), top toolbar handle remover, instruments in outside view toggle, and various other small tweaks and fixes - all working!

Tree mod at the blog site so far working well here.
