I don't know how they do this. This is got to be tough for Orbx. Orbx made KMDW for P3D and I cannot find any reason to purchase after downloading this scenery

It is also interesting; this freeware is just 410 KB and it is quite fine. But some payware airports are 3-4 GB but they are still not adequate.

What it clearly shows is that very good airports can be achieved by just using the default MSFS assets.

This may just be my first freeware airport.  Now I'm going to need a 737 so I can fly some Southwest routes.  Hehehe...

So true that we are blessed by these talented mod creators, but if FlyTampa updates their KMDW, most of their customers will be happy to pay for the update.

Thats because its not built from scratch. Its just adding or enhancing the default airport

In FS2020 there's less work to get a quality look.  Heck default GA airports look as good as what we would have paid for years ago.  I can fly the Longitude into default smaller airports now that handle corporate and find the feel/look of the airport 90% of the time represents what you would find at the real airport.  Totally impossible with anything prior to FS2020.

Yeah definitely. I fly around my local area and using lnm, I just look for random little airports to land at and they look great

I think the key difference is that an OrbX (or other) commercial product would be using custom 3D models to represent all the structures present, and update textures to be more authentic.   Airports using stock assets can look amazing, but not necessarily authentic to someone familiar with the real-word example.   Whether or not that matters is up to the individual consumer.  🙂

That having been said, there are also some amazing freeware airports that use custom models and really do blow some payware scenery out of the water.   This Gatwick is particularly awesome.  It's also 1GB, rather than 400k.

That’s one of the awesome things about the increase in freeware airports like this and even the much improved default airports to an extent in MSFS.  There are airports that I’ll use enough or that I know well enough where I’ll happily pay for a high quality addon scenery.  Then there are others where I fly there infrequently and/or wouldn’t notice the difference in the details and freeware efforts like this perfectly fit the bill.
