Future of X-plane

What I don't understand is why there is such an enormous FPS hit not just with your mod but with x-enviro and symaxpro even with a miserably restricted cloud draw distance.

EC's FPS impact can be minimized (< 8%) with an appropriate preset.

And it only took you a few months after having told you about it on Discord to find out! 😂

PS: If you have subscribed to the X-Plane newsletter you should have received the "Happy Holidays from X-Plane" newsletter - with a picture showing all of the Laminar team and freelance contributors. Thats everyone working on X-Plane (give and take a few people getting hired for quick jobs now and then).

Out of curiosity: How many people did you count?

For X-plane 12 one thing I would like to see is some sort of block or on screen notification to prevent you loading an add on that is going to cause issues. I've spent much of today trying to solve a loading crash. Turns out it was caused by Navigraph loading data directly into the plugins folder rather than into 124atc where it was meant to be. Not X-Planes fault but surely there should be some way to stop it trying to load or to flag it up rather than just crash the sim?

Why would Laminar see themselves responsible for third party (Navigraph) or user stupidity?

or to flag it up

The funny part is - the crash is your flag that things don´t work. The alternative would be to have the code continue to run - with totally unpredictable results.

A crash for a computer program is just that. A warning that things went off-rail and the code can´t continue to run sound.

Thanks. I now have a number to work with when people come crying why Laminar doesn't do this and that and do it fast. 😂

And consider that a few of these people (like me) don´t really work 9-5 every day... I just put in a few hours now and then as my real job allows me to.

But a crash doesn't tell you what has caused it? Why can't X-Plane just prevent it happening? It's 2021.

Right, if Microsoft can do it, so should Laminar Research.

? What has is got to do with Microsoft? I said it would be good to have some sort of crash prevention built into XP12?

I'm sorry but what is the relevance of these links? I said it would be good to have some crash protection built into XP12. Maybe it would also be good to have some crash protection built into MS2020 as well,

hes trying to express that the issue you are describing generally only exists on windows, since msfs is windows only it has a lot of them.

xplane already has this

its just windows mostly doesnt, and windows buggier than a dumpster from men in black

I think all should wait until XP12 is released , and screaming about XP faults here is really not going to make XP12 a nex gen flight sim.  Though I do hope it does.

Also stop comparing MFS with XP11 it's been said many times earlier XP11 is 4 years old , not a fair comparison. Just because the A sim has this and that, doesn't mean one should expect everything in the B sim, both have different targets, as it stands to me MFS just looks like a gorgeous world simulator , but that's my opinion.

Yes XP does need a overhaul especially for Wx / ligthing , i wouldn't care much for scenery if I was flying a 737 / 320 at 30-40k MSL, don't think I would be able to see the "taillight of a car blinking"  from that altitude .

For me scenery becomes more relevant as I fly helis. and sometimes GA's at lower altitudes , XP11 does a decent job for me especially that I also have a  choice of using Ortho4XP, though a new better ground scenery would go a long way .

The only thing that it lacks  is the WX / lighting which I think the whole simming community is not happy about and wants that upgraded ASAP.

No sim is perfect or will ever be and threads like this will continue and keep getting locked.

If one is complaining about XP11 should rather not use it and wait for XP12 or just use MFS or any other sim IMO.

hey i dont like MS and hate all the "spying" but since you cant escape it these days, but win10 is quiet good. As for linux, run it on a laptop, but it isnt for the faint of heart even these days.

When the trailer comes for the next version of XP I feel for LR because compared to MSFS it will be embarrassing.

Just stick to MFS you will be good !
