Using Tablets

Featured Replies

Can anyone help me, i would like to use a tablet for my FMC. Can anyone suggest the right size and make to use and also how do I after undocking a view i.e. the FMC transfer  it to the tablet. Is there an app to down load and where do you download it to or is it both computer and tablet. I have an old iPad which I'm not to up on don't no if that can help me. I think a new tablet would probably be best.

Regards

Bill

I'm using a couple of Amazon Fire 8 android tablets. I use one for charts and one for the RXP GTN750 but any undocked window can be dragged to the tablet.

Providing your flightsim computer is connected to your router, all you need is a tablet of your choice and free program called Spacedesk which will make your tablet appear as an additional monitor.

I have been using my old iPad Air 2 as my FMC. Perhaps you are aware that there is an excellent application made by Aviaworx giving you the possibility to use your FMC of all PMDG, Majestic, Qualitywings 787, Aerosoft A330 and 320 series on your iPad or any other device. You can even try it in a limited way before you buy.

Maybe off topic, but I bought a 7" touch screen connect directly to PC, for any add-on's CDU which can be undocked (Basically all of them, even XPlane one, and also GTN750) which only costs me about 35USD, almost same price range for some paid software to get work on tablet, and leave my Ipad for charts and performance calculation.

what plane .....do you prefer a freeware or payware answer.

in P3D. the best/only answer is payware for most aircraft

Agree with both, and would add a suggestion to check out the excellent apps from Virtual Avionics for 737 747 777 A320

Thanks I use only pay ware in P3Dv4, my problem is I don't no how to connect the tablet to the computer, is there an app i have to download i have tried connecting with a USB cable but does not work maybe you can advise on the best way forward.

Bill

The way your tablet is connected to your computer is via wifi and your tablet Internet browser.

For example if you use Aviaworx as  suggested in my post above, the software installed on your simulator PC will give you a QR symbol to read with your tablet and that's it (that QR code will be related to the airplane and FMC you use), on that browser page will be your FMC directly connected through wifi to your sim PC. You can create a shortcut on your tablet for that FMC and you won't have to look for it again.

As mentioned in my first post, you can try before you buy, so there is no risk for you, in case you have difficulties, we can help you, as you can see many of us use this software.

How’s the latency on space desk? I’d love to use something like this for a gtn 750 pop out

There was a similar discussion about using tablets in the MSFS forum.

Most might be applicable for P3D too.

Nick - I'm running Spacedesk with an Android 8" tablet as a display for the RXP GTN750.

Latency so low as to be barley noticeable and touchcreen operation of the GTN works beautifully.

I use the Aviaworx Remote CDUs for my PMDG 737/747/777, FSLabs A3xx, Maddog MD-8x, Qualitywings 787, and Majestic DHC8-Q400 on a 12.9" iPad Pro in landscape orientation--that allows two side-by-side FMCs on the single iPad display, or the MFD on the 787.  I had used a couple older iPad 2 tablets, but the 787MFD isn't very usable in that configuration.

There is a small utility that interfaces to P3D and runs a small web server (on the same machine as P3D) and you connect your tablet to it using a web browser (Safari on the iPad).  No wires needed--works just fine over Wifi in the house LAN.
