That Update certainly looks like it's made the plane very good. ("Never call it it a plane Bader, it's an aeroplane")

I did a little flight around Walney Island. Lots of wind, the plane felt so slow, I thought I would never reach the airport. Next time I'll probably hit the centerline. 🙂
I played in 4k, recording is 1080p and not very crisp.

I am surprised I didn’t see you. I am flying round there myself all the time in the MkIX. Sometimes head north over Black Combe and up the Lakes to land at Carlisle.

Maybe I should switch multiplayer on again. 🙂I switched it off becausecI hoped it would help with the framerate loss problem.

I think I am overpowering the takeoffs.

At the moment it is at times like an Egret on acid at a Disco.

Wing tip to wing tip ploughing.

What Throttle, Mixture & Prop % settings are smooth departure merchants using?

For Take Off;

Mixture Full Rich, Prop Full Fine (Full Forward), Throttle - YES!

Make sure by the time the tail comes up you're settled straight down the runway and then at (or just before - because she'll tell you when) 90 KIAS then lift, stay low and go to 120 then UP. Don't try and Horse her up in to the air - she'll spit you out if you do.

Once at 140 KIAS Gear Up.

160 on the Climb allowing it to go to 220 KIAS is fine and dandy.

Revs around 2300. Watch your Oil and Water Temps. Don't Boost for the TO, cut it now - keep her around about 9.

7 if you're taking it easy and just poodling about.

Go to 11 if you're Spinal Tapping her.

If you're being slovenly on purpose leave your Rad Cover Open until you're post 190 KIAS.

Then the skies are yours as you increase. The engine likes fresh air. Keep her going straight in to it and she'll love you for it. Then you can do the stuff. Splits, eights, spins, whatever - but you must keep the speed and you must keep a hand on the Rad Shutter. No Air - no Happy Engine - overheat, crash, Burn. Chard remains. AAIB Investigation. Wife and kids left hating flying, etc.

I don't own this particular version for MSFS 2020 but that's how you fly the real thing.

Landing is a reversal of Take off only use Flaps (not above 150 KIAS) Throw your Gear down and come in on the Approach at about 90 KIAS. Bleed your speed for a Three-Pointer on or around 5 knots above the Stall. Don't worry about floating - she doesn't - she bears down on her self beautifully just be ready for her to lift her nose (she's a snob) as she settles.

Go to!

If you watch the 1969 movie The Battle of Britain...

And it happens to be getting one of it's fairly regular showings on Channel 5 in the UK tomorrow, Sunday 14th at 17:30.

Talking of 603 Squadron, as some will know, the Spitfire on display as a gate guardian at Edinburgh Airport is actually a fibreglass replica model, painted in the colours of L1067 "Blue Peter", and replaced the real RAF Turnhouse gate guardian which ended up being preserved in the RAF Museum's reserve in Stafford.

Mixture & Prop both full forward; the trick is in the throttle and trim setup. No more than +7 boost, less boost is more control. Right rudder trim somewhere in the region of 2-5 degrees is optimal in our updated build. Some carefully timed aileron deflections can help combat the roll tendency, but ideally if you can stay nice and straight you shouldn't have too much trouble with roll. It takes some practice for sure

I wouldn't say I'm the smoothest, but after a bit of fiddling I found what worked best for me was to put in a good twist of right rudder trim, elevator trim one mark down, throttle initially to +4 boost, then dance lightly on the pedals to keep it fairly straight.  Once you are just barely skimming the surface of the earth, slowly feed in up to +7 with a little bit of back stick if needed to get positive climb, then gear up and power away.   If your wingtips are going in it's because you're being too heavy on the pedals, it only takes a little.

(This worked for me pre-patch, but I haven't tried tried it post-update.)

When I flew the MkIX at Boultbee - sim version not real - I was told to keep boost under 5. Not that I do in MSFS of course.

It does actually say in the real Spit manual that I have: 'If taking off from a small airfield with a full load, maximum boost may be obtained by opening the throttle through the gate to the TAKE OFF BOOST position.' So I guess we don't have to feel too unrealistic by giving it some jip to get it off the deck. I found that I did have to do that coming off the grass at Barton on my review vid in order to clear the trees, even though the runway is about twice as long as you'd actually need to get a real Spit off the deck. 🙂

Hello

Enter any airport that you consider the best for this type of plane.
Where you can meet other Spitfires and fly together, or watch others land, take off or fly acrobatics.

My proposition is EGCB Barton near Manchester.
It is a nicely done airport by Asobo, it has a historic tower.

Works for me - that would be a nostalgia visit.

Full forward (rich) on boost and prop pitch. The book of words says 1 division nose down trim but with a full fuel load I'm finding ¼-½ division nose up works best (and see (iii) below). No more than +8psi boost. Around 7-8 degrees of right rudder trim works OK for me. Watch the boost gauge when you throttle up and remember that full throttle is something silly like +20psi.

If you want to get off the ground in a straight line, half back stick and a bit of right aileron before starting the takeoff roll will help as well as some smooth right rudder as soon as you detect the left-hand swing beginning. You'll float off the ground in a 3 point attitude doing it this way.

The actual Mk.IX pilots' notes (AP1565J) say this, having previously said on the pre-takeoff checklist that rudder trim should be fully right, nose trimmed one division down and the carb air intake filter closed (filter in operation):

Quote

39. Take-off

(i) At training and normal loads +7lb./sq.in. to +9lb./sq.in. boost is sufficient for take-off. After take-off, however, boost should be increased (where applicable) to +12lb./sq.in to minimise the possibility of lead fouling of the sparking plugs.

(ii) There is a tendency to swing to the left but this can easily be checked with the rudder.

(iii) When the rear fuselage tanks are full the aircraft pitches on becoming airborne and it is recommended that the undercarriage should not be retracted, nor the sliding hood closed, until a height of at least 100 feet has been reached.

(iv) After retracting the undercarriage it is essential to check that the red warning light comes on, since if the undercarriage fails to lock UP the airflow through the radiators and oil cooler will be much reduced and excessive temperatures will result.

NOTE.- It may be necessary to hold the undercarriage selector lever hard forward against the quadrant until the red warning light comes on.

(v) If interconnected throttle and propeller controls are fitted move the override lever smoothly back to AUTOMATIC when comfortably airborne.

(vi) After take-off some directional retrimming will be necessary.

(vii) Unless operating in sandy or dust-laden conditions set the carburettor air intake filter control to OPEN (or NORMAL INTAKE) at 1,000ft.

Thank you all for the take off suggestions.

In the meantime this is one that did leave the ground, at Shoreham.

Sharp livery came with the FIS update.
