Was there an update? I didn't have any of the forced update. or does the issue injected via Bing streaming?

Switched off Bing maps and hey bingo lol. Seriously, first attempt was from EGLC (London City) which I have as an Orbyx add on, to Dublin EIDW, flight loaded then CTD!  Next attempt default airports, EGBE (Coventry) to EIDW, CTD as flight came in contact with ILS approach Dublin.

Hopefully Tuesdays update will fix things, very frustrating though. 🙂

Did a very nice flight from RJTT Haneda to RJAA Narita on the amazing 737 and landed. .thought no issues when on the runway post landing. CTD. Sigh!

There is some confusion over at the official forum now as someone has now mentioned BGL files (I think by an honest mistake).  It started as just CGL files.
Can anybody clarify?  And does anybody know what the difference is?
What a mess.

I just hope it gets fixed ASAP, imagine they release the World Update on Tuesday with thousands of community made mods and marketplace items still causing CTDs...if hell hadn't of broken loose already it will then!

I hope they're not as crazy as that.

It should be the CGL files, that are related to terrain exclusively for the 3rd. party add-ons that have them, and are the ones conflicting with the recent Bing data changes from MS.

One of the biggest drawbacks of this streaming stuff: the user is 100% depending on the servers and the data downloaded from there. Something goes wrong, little the user can do. Sure not the last time, hopefully they fix this asap...

What that means is whenever end of life is and I am betting its way before 10 years. That's the end of MSFS 2020

That is something that is worth thinking about.  It isn't just the cost of the sim but all of the addons if they ever pull the plug, and believe me, if they get something 'newer' that they want us to change to (and pay again), they will do it.

The server going down the other night worried me.  I never knew that could happen like that.  I thought the sim would still start, but just without the streaming data.

It is pretty standard model outside Flight Sims. Games like EVE online, World of Warcraft etc have been dependant on a server to play for years.

In fact doesn't Steam require a server just to login ?

True, but a lot of these games don't have anywhere near the level of investment.  I must have spent £300 on MSFS addons already.  I might have bought the odd expansion pack for a game in the past, but nothing like that level of spending (and it is probably just a start).

I wonder what the official word is on this.  They say they have a 10 year plan, but does that mean MSFS 2 after that, and wipe the slate clean?
Anyway - probably an unnecessary digression in the topic.  I am just waiting for some official communication on progress on this, but my expectations are probably too high being the weekend.

Actually for the US part of the team, it is the President's Day holiday weekend so a long weekend in the states for a lot of people.  Asobo are in France though.

I am very angry. Continuous CTDs without knowing what was happening. I had to disable all my addons. Until I read this thread on the forum. How can this be done without warning?

Yes, but I have worked in France.  A weekend is proper, almost sacred - no chance of getting people back to the office.  Wild horses and all that.

Anyway, a bit more info coming through from the community forums (the good old community again!).

It appears now that it only affects CGL files in this format...  saiXXX.cgl

All other CGL files (such as the ones for the spike fix) should be alright.

I found two files named sai313.cgl in my Wycombe Air Park and Channel Island boats scenery - kind of as expected.

Also, it is being claimed from the Aerosoft forum...

'Load an Airport that crashes for u without Bing Data. When its loaded go to Options and activate Bing Data again. Now restart the Game. For now I could load into avery Airport again. Hope it works for u too.'
